Overview of the role:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Treasurer & Deputy CFO, this role will deliver financial performance insights to the Executive Committee (ExComm). The Manager will also advise on financial impacts to various strategic projects and provide long range financial projections.
This purpose will be met by leading the annual budget and monthly forecasts cycles, and developing the framework of internal financial reporting. This role provides direct supervision of a team of financial analysts as well as indirect coaching and mentorship of other members of the broader Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team.
Key deliverables include:
Financial Reporting & Analysis

Analyze WestJet’s consolidated financial results and develop meaningful insights that lead into actions to continually enhance financial performance

Develop philosophy on corporate variance analysis and evaluate the analysis performed by the FP&A teams
-
Generate and distribute monthly financial reporting to the ExComm and Board of Directors

Generate and monitor key financial ratios and indicators
-
Maintain and develop meaningful financial analysis of industry peers

Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support current initiatives
Monthly Forecast & Annual Budget
-
Coordinate the timely completion of the monthly forecasting outlook and annual budget
-
Includes managing key assumptions and analysis of results to be presented to the ExComm and Board

Develop Departmental financial targets
-
Work closely with the FP&A, Strategy and Treasury teams to coordinate and continually improve process efficiency and accurate reliable output of financial projections

Evaluate and summarize risks and opportunities
Long Range Planning

Manage the financial models used in all long-range financial analysis
-
Perform sensitivity analysis and scenario planning on financial models
-
Overlay strategic initiatives and determine financial outlook and impacts
-
Work closely with Strategy, FP&A and Treasury and various other stakeholders in supporting ad hoc initiatives including fleet analysis and other M&A options

Manage monthly traffic reporting (flight movements and passenger data)

Be an active member of the Finance team; willing to mentor and coach peers, brainstorm issues, complete ad-hoc requests, and be flexible in completing any task
Experience and qualifications
-
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Finance Designation, MBA or Accounting Designation required
-
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in financial analysis with experience in financial modelling, sensitivity and scenario analysis

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, including the ability to build complex analytical models, and executive‑level presentations that translate complex information into clear, decision‑ready insights.

Demonstrated ability to analyze, model, and derive actionable insights from large-scale, complex datasets using Power BI and comparable analytics ecosystems (e.g., Snowflake), incorporating advanced data transformation techniques and emerging AI-enabled analytics capabilities.

Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines in an environment with a high volume of activity

Possess strong communication skills to provide guidance &/or instruction to peers in the organization

JDE or Hyperion experience would be an asset
