What is the opportunity?
RBC Capital Markets Global Investment Banking is seeking a Vice President, Syndicate to join its market leading Debt Capital Markets group in Toronto.
RBC Capital Markets’ Debt Capital Markets group provides a broad range of fixed income execution and advisory services to domestic and international clients, including corporate, financial and public sector issuers. The Debt Capital Markets, Syndicate group in Canada is primarily responsible for execution and distribution of public and private debt instruments across both investment grade and high yield.
As a Vice President, Syndicate, you will work closely with investment banking industry coverage partners, corporate banking, sales and trading, and derivatives teams as well as with our global Debt Capital Markets partners to achieve optimal execution for our evolving client base.
What will you do?
- Lead in the execution and distribution of corporate debt financings and support broad buy-side client coverage in collaboration with sales and trading
- Assist in monitoring primary inventories and transaction related risk management
- Ensure operational effectiveness and compliance with firm and industry requirements
- Support client advisory and work collaboratively with Global Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Global Markets colleagues
- Develop and hone transferable analytical skills through direct transaction experience
- Provide general support to the debt capital markets group
- Play an important role in training and development of junior analyst resources
- Work directly with senior levels of Canada’s largest and fastest growing companies
- Build a long-term career in Capital Markets
What you need to succeed?
Must-haves
- University degree, preferably in business/commerce, economics, “STEM” or other relevant discipline
- Demonstrated superior track record in academic and professional endeavours
- DCM, Syndicate, investment banking or related experience (minimum 4 to 5-years direct or related experience)
- A self-starter and strong team player with ability to work well in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills; financial modeling experience would be desired
- Knowledge of accounting (ability to interpret financial statements) and solid understanding of credit metrics is essential
- Intellectual curiosity with a passion for markets and sound knowledge of the corporate bond markets
- Advanced MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills are a must
- High regard for detail and accuracy
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to work long hours
