The Program
The Hybrid Home Share Program is a residential option in which an adult with a developmental disability lives with a caregiver who is contracted with Taproot to provide ongoing daily support. The Caretakers role is to provide a safe home environment where adults can develop social and life skills to ready themselves to reach their full potential for independence. The Caretaker applying for this posting will be required to move into the individual’s existing home in rural Chilliwack. This individual has a set schedule with flexibility for Contractor to have weekends off to go visit family and friends. The contractor will have funds to hire respite to oversee the home and individual on their days off.
In Your Role You Will
- Report to Program Manager on a regular basis and in bi-monthly check-ins
- Provide flexible and evolving support to individuals changing needs within a home
- Work within the guidelines and policies within the Home Sharing Services Handbook and all other policies and standards set for the Home Sharing Program
- Ensure a stable, structured and home-like environment and positive and positive role models to guarantee the safety of the Individual
- Take appropriate action to accomplish the objectives set for the person served
- Establish safety and emergency procedures to provide support, care and supervision consistent with the Personal Service Plan of the Individual
- Fulfill necessary administrative duties, such as completing Critical Incident Reports or Missing Persons Reports
- Ensure that the Individual and their chosen family are involved in all planning and decision-making on matters affecting the Individual, whenever possible
- Assists the Individual in making effective choices concerning the development and maintenance of friendships and relationships
- Conducts regular and ongoing communication with the Individual's support teams, maintaining clear and professional relationships

Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks
***Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

Have experience supporting individuals with disabilities

Be able to provide personal care if needed

Be adept at conflict resolution, redirection, and de-escalation

Be familiar with Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports

Have experience in providing care to individuals facing multiple barriers
-
Be proficient in executing person-centered approaches
-
Have a gentle approach when implementing firm boundaries
-
Willing to re-locate to the rural Chilliwack area

Ability to successfully complete a Ministry of Justice Criminal Records Check
-
Current Emergency First Aid/CPR AED Level C Certificate

Complete the Home Share Provider screening

Complete MANDT Training, Food Safe, and other Home Share specific training, provided by the agency
-
Be consistent in implementing firm professional boundaries with persons served

Class 5 Driver's License, A clear Driver’s Abstract, and a reliable vehicle big enough to fit a large wheelchair

Open to working with LGBTQIA+ individuals

Reliable in cleaning and responding to phone calls and emails

Patient and understanding with client needs

Aware of the Justice system and their individuals in care post release - and trauma informed care

Own an updated computer with Microsoft office 365 and cellphone
