Position Overview
Air Canada is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Manager to lead the control ownership & governance of the ERP application. The SAP Security & Controls Product Manager provides leadership and oversight for the control framework supporting the organization’s SAP ERP systems, with a focus on NI 52-109 internal control over financial reporting (ICFR). This role ensures effective access governance, control design, and risk oversight while partnering across IT, Finance, and Audit. The position emphasizes governance, accountability, and control effectiveness rather than hands-on system administration.
The SAP Security & Controls Product Manager will collaborate with internal stakeholders, IT teams, and external vendors to define and deliver the SAP security and controls related mandate.
Responsibilities
- Establish and mature the organization’s SAP GRC, security and controls governance framework to reduce access risk, improve audit readiness, and enable scalable system growth.
- This role ensures SAP security and control design supports both regulatory compliance .
- Serve as the owner for security and controls governance over the SAP ERP S4Hana RISE environment, ensuring systems that support financial reporting operate in a controlled and compliant manner.
- Oversee the design, governance, and ongoing effectiveness of SAP access and security controls that support compliance with NI 52-109 internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) requirements.
- Establish and maintain the operating model for SAP security and controls, clearly defining roles and responsibilities across IT, security, and business teams.
- Ensure SAP security controls are appropriately integrated into financial reporting processes, reducing risk of unauthorized access or inappropriate system changes.
- Act as the primary liaison between IT, Finance, Internal Audit, and External Audit for SAP-related controls under NI 52-109.
- Own and maintain control documentation, including control descriptions, process narratives, and evidence requirements for ICFR compliance.
- Monitor and report on control performance and key risk indicators, providing regular updates to leadership on SAP control health and risk exposure.
- Oversee the governance of SAP change management controls, ensuring system changes impacting financial reporting are authorized, tested, and documented.
- Lead risk assessments for new SAP functionality, integrations, or business process changes that could impact financial reporting controls.
- Review control deficiencies and audit findings; drive remediation plans and track issues through to resolution.
- Lead SAP control readiness activities supporting management activities related to NI 52-109 management assertions by ensuring SAP control evidence is complete, accurate, and available.
- Promote a strong risk and controls culture across SAP stakeholders while remaining focused on oversight rather than daily operational execution.
- Provide senior management reporting on SAP security risks, control maturity, and compliance posture.
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver enhancements to the SAP controls landscape.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and IT governance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business or a related field with a minimum of 5+ relevant working experience.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CISA, CRISC, CISSP, or SAP GRC IAG /Security certifications are considered an asset
- Experience working with SAP ERP environments (e.g., S/4HANA RISE, or related SAP systems) in a security, controls, or governance capacity
- Strong understanding of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) frameworks, including NI 52-109 or SOX-equivalent requirements
- Experience assessing risk and controls related to system changes, ERP implementations, or major transformations
- Understanding of how ERP systems support financial reporting processes
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business terms.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with a proactive and results-oriented mindset.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships.
- Ability to provide clear direction and communicate effectively in both technical and business contexts.
- Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
