About the role

About Rare Days

We are a multidisciplinary digital product agency obsessed with helping creators build lasting legacies. Since 2020, we have built products at the sweet spot where content meets commerce, empowering established creators and content led businesses to transform their passion into sustainable success.

Our clients include well known creators like Esther Perel, Dr. Becky, Colin and Samir, and Ryan Trahan, as well as organizations like Airbnb, Notion, and Ziff Davis. We specialize in community first platforms, membership tools, and creator infrastructure, and we build with care, context, and a clear point of view.

We are a fully remote team based in Canada and are open to candidates able to work within 4 hours of PST.

About The Role

Our engineering leads are accountable for the technical success of a project from kickoff to final delivery. To thrive in this role, you must be capable of owning the entire system architecture, ensuring the backend, database, and frontend work in harmony. You will manage the engineering efforts of your team, breaking down complex requirements into actionable tasks and ensuring the project crosses the finish line on time and at high quality.

You will lead the full stack architecture, and your hands on expertise with modern frontend technologies will be critical. You will work directly with design teams to ensure our web applications are pixel perfect and set a high standard for user interface quality within the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end to end technical delivery of projects, taking full ownership of the timeline, scope, and final release.
  • Architect the complete software solution, making high level decisions regarding database design, API strategy, and frontend structure.
  • Manage and delegate work to other engineers on the project, conducting code reviews and ensuring the team maintains high velocity and quality.
  • Collaborate with Product and Design to translate visual concepts into technical reality, ensuring the final output matches the design vision with precision.
  • Integrate complex third party systems, including multiple payment gateways, authentication providers, and headless CMS platforms.
  • Identify technical risks early in the project lifecycle and communicate trade offs to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Coach and mentor your team members, helping them upskill in both architectural thinking and frontend execution.

What we are looking for

  • You have 8 plus years of engineering experience with 2 plus years in a lead role.
  • System Architecture Leadership: You have a proven track record of designing and leading the development of full stack web applications, from the database schema to the client side interactions.
  • Frontend Mastery: You have deep expertise in React and Next.js, with a strong ability to build performant, SEO friendly applications.
  • Pixel Perfect Execution: You are highly proficient with Tailwind CSS and possess a refined eye for design, capable of spotting misalignment and ensuring the code reflects the Figma files exactly.
  • Complex Integrations: You have experience connecting applications with varied external services, such as Stripe, Cognito, or Hygraph.
  • Mobile Experience: Having experience building or managing mobile applications with React Native is a big plus.
  • Team Management: You are comfortable managing the daily output of other developers, unblocking them, and keeping the project on track.
  • Communication: You can explain complex architectural decisions to non technical stakeholders and build trust with clients.
  • AI-Augmented Development: You actively leverage AI tools to accelerate development and improve code quality, and you stay curious about integrating emerging AI capabilities into your engineering workflow

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive compensation $120,000 - $150,000
  • Extended health benefits for Canadian employees
  • Flexible working hours and a remote-friendly culture
  • Flexible time-off allowance for vacation, sick days, and personal time as needed. We actively encourage team members to make use of this time-off policy
  • The opportunity to work with well-known creators and brands, including Esther Perel, Colin & Samir, Shan Boodram, and Sophia Amoruso
