The English Education, Programs and Services division is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and support for English language curricula, programs, services and resources for teachers and students from kindergarten to Grade 12. The Programs Coordinator will provide leadership and support to team members in fulfilling diverse responsibilities related to the K-12 English education system. The position will provide extensive, varied experience of the PEI public education system, education programs and policy, fosters collegiality, and works with minimal supervision to complete complex and time sensitive tasks.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Support curriculum leaders with the development, editing and writing of documents for a variety of audiences and purposes;
  • Working in collaboration with the Education Technology Specialist, maintain the Learning and Teacher Platforms;
  • Support the Manager and Director with CAMET and CMEC files;
  • Maintain briefing notes, Programs of Studies, and digital program information;
  • Assist the PSB Administrator Support Leaders with program initiatives;
  • Liaise with teams within the division and across the department to ensure projects are progressing;
  • In collaboration with specialist staff, assist in gathering and coordinating research;
  • Provide orientation to staff in curriculum development and writing, and help anticipate and problem-solve curriculum development challenges;
  • Align and maintain long-term curriculum plans with the division budget;
  • Represent the English Education, Programs and Services Division on provincial and regional committees;
  • Perform other duties requested by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a degree in Education and a relevant degree at the Master’s level.
  • Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a PEI Teacher’s Certificate Level 6 or higher.
  • Extensive experience working in a K-12 leadership role.
  • Working knowledge of the Education Act and relevant regulations.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • An ability to manage complex education initiatives, meet deadlines and handle diverse tasks simultaneously.
  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellent writing skills.
  • Must have a good previous attendance and work record.
  • The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment;

Other Qualifications:

  • Training and/or experience in the development of government documents, such as contracts, briefing notes, Minister’s Directives will be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the PEI public education system at the Ministry level will be considered an asset.
  • A knowledge of educational software used in the Publics School Branch will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in supervising staff, leading professional learning and/or chairing committees will be considered assets.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft suites.
