Enbridge is looking for an individual to establish and maintain positive relationships and building trust with Indigenous communities in southern Ontario between Toronto and London. The role will develop and implement engagement plans and complete regulatory requirements for all business units at Enbridge.

What You Will Do:
- Own relationships with leaders and work with partners within and outside Public Affairs, Communications (PACS) (i.e., Supply Chain Management) to develop engagement strategies, approaches, and tools to improve efficiencies and minimize risk related to Community and Indigenous Engagement.
- For Indigenous engagement, responsible lead for direct engagement with Indigenous communities, build positive relationships and trust, meet regulatory engagement requirements and effectively manage related risks. Complete regulatory requirements in consultation / engagement and document effectively the outcomes.
- Lead or assist in providing awareness and mentorship to the team and company on Indigenous cultural protocols, norms, and politics to ensure the company respectfully engages with Indigenous communities, builds positive relationships and trust, meets regulatory engagement requirements, and efficiently handle related risks.
- Assist stakeholder engagement in the field with individuals, communities, Indigenous groups and local governments and organizations in support of business goals and project objectives, working collaboratively with internal functions such as Environment, Business Development and Operations.
- Lead or assist with development and implementation of specific engagement plans, including project specific engagement plans and Regional Engagement Plans, strategies, talking points for media spokesperson and related budgets that reflect the interests of both the Company and the potentially affected stakeholder/Indigenous groups. Meet regulatory requirements and build, maintain, and improve Enbridge's reputation as a trusted corporate citizen.
- Lead or assist with contract and agreement negotiations with Indigenous communities.
- Contribute regional knowledge and policies into Business Development to ensure consideration of local and regional stakeholder risks and opportunities.
- Where applicable, consistent with Company guidelines, and in concert with the business units and Company departments such as Law, Operations, Regulatory, and other departments within PACS, assist with the development of Protocol and Engagement Agreements, Letters of Intent and project agreements, etc., that support key stakeholder and Indigenous community relationship building and communication, capacity building, and key stakeholder and Indigenous training and education, contracting and hiring that will strategically advance business objectives.
- Where applicable, working with the Supply Chain Management team, identify opportunities in conjunction with project teams or Operations regarding Indigenous content on Enbridge's projects or operations. This includes providing insight into community dynamics, capacity and politics, identifying potential local impacts and regional Indigenous participation opportunities and benefits (e.g. educational, skills development, employment, and business opportunity initiatives).
- Help identify community needs and consider appropriate corporate citizenship (community investment) opportunities to assist Indigenous communities and foster good-will.
- Establish and maintain well-organized record of contact and in the relationship management database.
Who You Are:
- University degree from a related post-secondary program.
- 7 or more years of directly related work experience in Indigenous and/or stakeholder engagement, preferably in the resources sector, particularly in the energy industry / energy transportation infrastructure sector. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Preference may be given to a candidate who identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit).
- Knowledge and direct experience in engaging with Indigenous communities, including on Indigenous history and rights, on cultural protocols and norms, on Indigenous politics and the ability to successfully engage with Indigenous peoples.
- Experience in and understanding of a large, public company with operations in multiple regions.
- Proven written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal abilities including consultation, negotiation, facilitation, risk communication and conflict resolution.
- A high degree of flexibility to adapt to multiple and competing priorities
- Able to deal with a variety of external and internal disciplines and senior management and manage multiple projects at once, under constant deadline pressure
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with frequent travel to Indigenous communities.
- Works with highly confidential, strategic information.
- Attends after-hours Indigenous and community events on personal and business time throughout the year.
