Position Summary Project Manager Trainee (Co-op), Facilities Management Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities Management, you will assist in the coordination of Facilities Management activities related to construction, capital replacement, energy projects and renovation projects. This includes coordinating the building services shutdowns, playing a key role in assessing project requirements to ensure the efficient utilization of manpower, supplies, utilities and equipment in a cost-effective manner. You will assist in providing quality delivery of facilities projects for the benefit of all patients, staff and visitors at the Hospital which also includes collaborating with the Supervisor, Facilities management to coordinate the various tradesmen activities, providing different elements of building services such as architectural, plumbing and electrical needs. As part of your regular day to day duties, you will report identified hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, in a timely manner. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Support the Facilities Management team in coordinating multiple renovation projects by actively participating in all phases, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and occupancy, ensuring seamless execution and timely completion.
- Coordinate the facilities activities related to construction projects with those of various user groups within the Hospital and with contractors who work for Facilities Management.
- Coordinate communication with external and internal project stakeholders.
- Inform department heads and IPAC when renovations receive approval.
- Coordinate the building services shutdown process.
- Review renovations daily to ensure work is progressing according to schedule and areas are safe and clean.
- Coordinate the final cleaning of space with Environmental Services and inform them of impending moves.
- Upon project completion, review the space, note deficiencies, and have them resolved quickly.
- Maintain reports and databases related to project activity, other facilities operation activities and reporting.
- Receive inquiries and service requests on building related issues and ensure they’re handled promptly.
- Perform inspections at all sites assessing service work and potential renovation areas.
- Provide additional support to regards to research, gathering data, and prepare reports related to Facilities Management.
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing post-secondary education in fields such as Construction Management, Environmental and Structural Engineering, Building and Architectural Sciences, Civil and Industrial Engineering, Energy Systems, Sustainable Design and Management, or Project Management. This includes those pursuing or having completed programs in areas like Environmental Science, Architectural Studies, Sustainable Building, and Environmental Management, emphasizing a comprehensive skill set for careers in engineering, technology, and construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and be familiar with the following programs; Bluebeam, Office 365.
- Excellent time management skills, strong organization, and written/verbal communication skills .
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills .

This is a Part-time temporary cooperative education position of 6 months with 8-hour shifts, day shifts in the Facilities Management department.
