Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Field Operations & Coordination (80%) Site Visits & Inspections: Travel to each of your assigned locations a minimum of one time per month to conduct comprehensive facility inspections and site visits.
- Hazard Management: Report any hazardous conditions found during visits and actively assist branch staff in problem-solving to rectify them. Work directly with Branch Managers to identify and resolve safety-related items.
- Incident Investigations: Lead thorough investigations for any incidents at your assigned locations, determine root causes, and assign/track corrective actions to completion.
- JHSC Leadership: Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and support the branch committees as subject matter expert.
- Training & Claims: Partner with branch managers to ensure all staff are properly trained prior to the completion of high-risk tasks. Assist in the management of WCB claims and return-to-work programs.
- Strategic Advisory & Leadership Support (20%) Sr. Management Advising: Act as a trusted advisor to the General Manager, HSE, providing field-level insights and assisting in the development of multi-provincial safety strategies.
- Regulatory Alignment: Work closely with the GM, HSE to ensure company policies are strictly aligned with the OH&S regulations in your specific jurisdictions.
- Cultural Influence: Act as a champion for RME’s safety culture. Influence positive behavioral changes on the shop floor and in the field by building strong, trusting relationships with heavy-duty mechanics, service managers, and sales teams.
- Departmental Support: Take on elevated responsibilities to support the broader HSE department and act as a point of contact when the General Manager is unavailable.
Job Requirements and Qualifications Include:
- 5 to 10 years of progressive HSE experience, demonstrating a strong mix of field-level coordination, auditing, and high-level advisory work.
- Comprehensive understanding of OH&S legislation (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and/or Manitoba) and regulatory alignment.
- Proven ability to conduct detailed site inspections, hazard assessments, and root-cause incident investigations.
- A highly proactive approach to problem-solving; you are comfortable working alongside Branch Managers and advising executive leadership.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driver abstract—you must be willing and able to travel to assigned branches at least once a month.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency with safety management software and Microsoft Office.
- Certified First Aid Instructor.
- ACSA COR Audit Certifications.
- Proven experience in a heavy duty and or agriculture equipment environment.
- Professional safety designations (e.g., CRSP, NCSO) or actively working toward them.
- Previous experience mentoring junior safety staff or leading departmental initiatives.
- Frequent and open communication with GM HSE regarding the HS&E of the organization.
