###Job Description

TheAquatic Supervisormanages and oversees the lifeguard team and day‑to‑day pool‑deck operations to deliver safe, continuous aquatics service. The role manages rosters/bids, deck standards and incident follow‑ups, plans in‑services, supports AED readiness, and provides on‑deck teaching/backup lifeguarding as needed.

The YWCA Health & Fitness Centre is one of YWCA BC’s social enterprises. Located on Hornby Street in downtown Vancouver, the 30,000-square-foot adult facility features a gym, pool and fitness studios, and plays an important role in generating revenue that helps fund YWCA BC programs and services across the community.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Responsible for recruitment and lead onboarding/development of lifeguards; track credentials (NL/SFA/SI) and managing performance standards.

  • Own lifeguard rosters and contingency plans (including bid processes) to ensure safe coverage.

  • Build Aquafit rosters and sub plans; verify class coverage and quality; update CRM as needed.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and check‑ins with lifeguards/instructors, document actions.

  • Plan and deliver in‑service cycles (refreshers, screenings, make‑ups).

  • Organize/teach Red Cross CPR/First Aid courses; maintain rosters in Red Cross system; ensure training rooms/equipment meet standards.

  • Coordinate training blocks and communication with Member Services for timely desk notices.

  • Ensure incident reporting quality; track follow‑ups to closure; facilitate post‑incident debriefs with Ops.

  • Oversee maintenance requests as it relates to the pool (chemistry/equipment) and adjust service accordingly.

  • Support AED readiness activities under Member Services ownership.

  • Approve routine invoices per process; submit weekly/monthly KPIs (attendance, cancellations, incidents, audits).

What you’ll need:

  • Previous supervisory experience within a unionized environment.

  • National Lifeguard (NL) and Standard First Aid/CPR‑C.

  • Knowledge of the BC Guidelines for Pool Operations (Pool Operators Level 1 an asset).

  • Experience leading lifeguard teams and in‑service design/delivery.

  • Strong deck safety leadership (positioning, scanning patterns, rotation, ratios).

  • Roster management and incident documentation skills.

  • Aquafit/Water Fitness instructor certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

  • One advanced aquatics training course such as Lifesaving Trainer, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A valid criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.

Pay Rate as for April 1, 2026: $35.89 per hour
