About the role

Under general supervision of an Area Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for collecting, recording, verifying, discussing and reviewing property and business data, and entering information into the appropriate system for assigned property types and assignments.

As the Field Assistant you will:

  • Gather assessment related data and enter into computer system for assigned property types for the purpose of valuation.
  • Perform site inspections pertaining to assessment valuations.
  • Provide strong customer service.
  • Assist in preparing and observing board of revision and municipal board hearings.
  • Perform general office work in connection with realty and business assessment roll production.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • High school diploma supplemented by post-secondary courses in business administration, commerce, building trades or other related fields.

  • Candidates enrolled or completed the Certificate in Real Property Assessment (CRPA) preferred.

  • Candidates enrolled or completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation (PGCV) program(s) may be considered.

  • Previous experience in building trades, property management, valuation, real estate preferred.

  • Previous customer service experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.

  • Knowledge of building construction and materials, and ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.

  • Demonstrated ability to make accurate mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and set and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office programs at a basic level (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff, clients, as well as internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent written communication skills for communicating simple to complex information to all levels of audiences.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills for effectively conveying information to clients and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage conflict and utilize appropriate conflict management skills.

Conditions of employment:

  • Actively enrolled and participating in the completion of the Certificate in Real Property Assessment (CRPA) or Post Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation (PGCV) program(s).
  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5 Driver’s License.

  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position. Duties to include but are not limited to; climbing stairs, bending, and exposure to elements while performing inspections.
