The Program Specialist, Indigenous Health plays a key role in advancing CIHI’s Indigenous Health priorities by supporting the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of data-driven products and services.

Working in a matrix environment, this role integrates project coordination, stakeholder engagement, product management and hands-on analytical support to enable timely, high-quality outputs and accelerate data-informed decision-making across the program. The Program Specialist provides technical and operational leadership for projects, supports governance and quality processes, and helps translate analytical outputs into stakeholder-facing products and learning materials for the Indigenous Health team.

What you'll do

  1. Plan, track and coordinate data analytics projects and related timelines, deliverables and risks; maintain project charters, workplans and status reporting.
  2. Convene and support cross functional project teams; organize meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes and follow up on action items.
  3. Support budget monitoring, procurement and resource/capacity planning as required.
  4. Act as a key liaison with internal stakeholders, data providers and external partners to gather requirements, clarify specifications and manage expectations.
  5. Support advisory/steering committees: prepare materials, coordinate members, draft meeting notes and follow up on decisions.
  6. Respond to client requests for information and coordinate the delivery of custom outputs.
  7. Support design, development, testing and release of analytic products (reports, dashboards, indicators, datasets).
  8. Coordinate and/or execute test strategies, verification checks and quality assurance activities to ensure products meet CIHI’s information quality standards.
  9. Prepare metadata, methodology notes, release documentation and interpretive content for users.
  10. Provide hands on analytic support as required: data extraction, transformation, validation and basic analysis using SQL, SAS, R or Python.
  11. Support the migration/modernization of legacy workflows (e.g., moving SAS code to R/Python or updated platforms) and promote reproducible practices.
  12. Help design and maintain reporting datasets, ETL processes and automated pipelines in collaboration with data engineering/ITS.
  13. Prepare stakeholder facing materials: presentations, briefing notes, web content, infographics, and training materials.
  14. Support dissemination activities and contribute to user education and onboarding.
  15. Support data governance, documentation and metadata initiatives; help maintain SharePoint/portal sites and distribution lists.
  16. Contribute to process and tool improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality.

What you'll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Information, Statistics, Computer Science, Business or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 3–5 years’ experience supporting data analytics projects, product delivery, or program coordination.
  • Experience with BI/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, MicroStrategy, Qlik), cloud analytics platforms, and version control (Git).
  • Experience supporting product releases, user testing and training.
  • Experience working in a public sector or health system context.
  • Practical experience with data manipulation and analytic tools (SQL plus one or more of SAS, Python or R).
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), SharePoint and common collaboration tools (Teams).
  • Strong project coordination, stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to handle multiple parallel deliverables in a matrix environment.
  • Prior experience with health administrative or clinical data (e.g., DAD, NACRS, CMDB/CPCD, registry or EMR datasets).
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks, metadata standards and information quality practices.
