About the role
Supports the NA Collections Governance team and assigned senior leaders in executing strategic priorities that strengthen oversight, compliance, and operational excellence across the business. Integrates information from multiple sources to enhance governance practices, improve risk management, streamline reporting, and support the effective and compliant operation of the Collections organization.
Works closely with stakeholders across Canadian and U.S. Collections, Compliance, Operational Risk, Legal, Audit, and Enterprise partners to interpret business results, assess the operating environment, monitor emerging trends, and provide insights and recommendations that advance Collections governance maturity. Coordinates governance routines, supports audit and regulatory activities, and manages end‑to‑end attestation and reporting processes for the business.
Supports the development of consistent, effective communications for senior leaders and the Collections governance community, enabling clarity, alignment, and execution across NA Collections.
Key Accountabilities
Leadership & Culture
- Fosters a culture aligned to BMO’s purpose, values, and strategy, role‑modeling BMO behaviours in all interactions.

Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Acts as a trusted advisor to NA Collections leadership on governance, risk, controls, and regulatory expectations.
- Supports development and execution of governance strategies, ensuring readiness for evolving business needs and regulatory requirements including reporting.
- Coordinates and enhances governance routines, including risk forums, issue management, attestation cycles, control testing, and regulatory reporting.
- Ensures effective management of operational, compliance, conduct, and reputational risks related to Collections.
- Breaks down governance‑related problems and synthesizes data to provide insights and recommendations.
- Conducts independent review, analysis, and resolution of governance and risk-related issues.
Strategic Support & Planning
- Supports strategic planning activities and assists in establishing priorities and initiatives aligned to Collections governance objectives.
- Collaborates with cross-functional partners to determine business needs and to develop governance frameworks, standards, and reporting.
- Recommends and implements governance solutions based on analysis of issues and business impacts.
- Influences and negotiates with stakeholders to drive alignment and execution of governance strategies.
Change Management & Communication
- Leads or contributes to governance‑focused change management initiatives, including readiness assessments, stakeholder management, program sustainment, and communication planning.
- Develops and executes communication strategies to support governance initiatives across NA Collections.
- Creates messaging, dashboards, and reporting that enable clear, consistent communication to leadership and stakeholders.
Analytics, Reporting & Performance Tracking
- Designs, produces, and continuously enhances governance and risk reporting, including dashboards, heat maps, trend analysis, and KPI/KRI monitoring.
- Integrates data from various sources to streamline governance reporting and enhance insights.
- Tracks performance against governance and risk objectives; identifies gaps and supports remediation activities.
Operations & Financial Management
- Ensures effective planning and control of operating expenses in alignment with governance budgets.
- Coordinates financial tracking, forecasting, and reporting as needed for governance programs.
- Employs systems and tools (e.g., exception reports, tracking tools, SharePoint governance libraries) to manage governance information and documentation.
Stakeholder Relationships & Issue Resolution
- Builds effective relationships with internal and external partners, ensuring alignment across stakeholder groups.
- Acts as a point of contact for governance‑related escalations; ensures timely follow‑up, documentation, and closure.
- Supports audit and regulatory reviews, including preparation, documentation, evidence gathering, and response coordination.
Risk Culture
- Takes measured risks while protecting the bank by applying BMO’s Risk Management Framework.
- Makes well‑reasoned, risk-informed decisions aligned to BMO’s strategy and risk appetite.
- Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, internal frameworks, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Typically 5–7 years of relevant experience, preferably in governance, risk management, operational risk, audit, compliance, or Collections operations.
- Post‑secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of experience.
- Deep knowledge of risk management, operational processes, and governance frameworks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — in-depth.
- Advanced collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated influence, negotiation, and strategic advisory skills.
- Advanced data-driven decision-making capabilities, including comfort with reporting tools and dashboards.
Salary: $69,000.00 - $129,000.00
Pay Type: Salaried

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
