As Avalon moves into its next phase of growth, with expanding global opportunities and increasing operational complexity, we’re seeking a Controller who will bring the financial discipline and insight needed to support bold decisions and sustainable growth.
You’ll establish structure where needed, strengthen financial practices, and ensure the organization has the visibility and controls required to support growth and complex project execution. As a trusted partner to leadership, you will help ensure decisions are grounded, risks are understood, and momentum is sustained.
What You’ll Do

Financial Operations & Reporting

Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

Prepare financial statements and management reports

Maintain financial controls and general ledger integrity

Ensure compliance and reporting accuracy

Cash Flow & Financial Discipline
-
Monitor cash flow and forecast needs, identifying risks early

Support working capital management and expense discipline
-
Provide visibility into runway and planning scenarios
-
Clarify financial tradeoffs as priorities evolve

Controls, Compliance & Audit
-
Strengthen internal controls and financial governance practices
-
Ensure compliance with tax filings and statutory requirements
-
Funding, Grants & Program Reporting
-
Support reporting requirements tied to government funding and incentive programs (e.g., SR&ED)
-
Ensure documentation and audit readiness for funding compliance
-
Partner across the organization to align financial reporting with project activities

Systems & Process Improvement
-
Streamline financial workflows and optimize systems and reporting as we grow

Incorporate tools and automation to improve accuracy and efficiency

Build processes designed to scale

Cross-Functional Partnership

Provide strategic advice to support forecasting, modelling, and planning

Support operational and project decision-making
-
Translate financial data into clear guidance for non-financial stakeholders
What Will Help You Succeed
- CPA designation
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience including FP&A
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reporting, and compliance
- Experience in a growth-stage, technology, manufacturing, or project-based environment is an asset
- Familiarity with government funding programs (e.g., SR&ED) is an asset
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
- Effective communicator across all levels of an organization
- Comfortable operating in fast-changing environments with ability to think ahead
- Proactive and curious mindset with a focus on improving processes and challenging inefficiencies
