Our Edmonton location is seeking an experienced Cargo Operations Manager to support our diverse operations. This is a full-time position.
Description:
The Cargo Operations Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of EFC’s cargo operations in Edmonton. This includes managing air cargo handling procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and leading a team to deliver safe, efficient, and customer-focused cargo services. The Cargo Operations Manager has a deep understanding of cargo logistics, a proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to lead within the dynamic airport environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise cargo operations, including import/export, bonded warehouse activities, and international cargo flows.
- Ensure compliance with Transport Canada, IATA regulations, aviation security protocols, and customs clearance procedures and airline-specific regulations and standards.
- Manage staffing levels including shift scheduling, payroll approvals and recruitment activities ensuring to meet operational demands and limit overtime.
- Manage and mentor cargo staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that supports employee engagement and retention.
- Monitor and optimize cargo handling processes using tracking systems and operational reporting tools.
- Liaise with airline partners, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for audits and performance metrics.
- Ensure all personnel are trained and certified in accordance with operational and safety standards.
- Respond to operational challenges and service disruptions with effective problem-solving and strategic planning.
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives.
- Organize invoices and accounts payable, prepare monthly reports and budget, maintain allocated budget, determine supply and equipment needs.
- Support the implementation of new technologies, systems, and process enhancements to improve cargo handling efficiency.
- Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
- Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
- Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years experience in air cargo or aviation operations required.
- Minimum three years previous supervisory experience with proven leadership abilities.
- Experience managing air cargo handling procedures, aviation security, bonded warehouse operations, international cargo flows and customs clearance processes.
- Proficiency in using cargo management and tracking systems, with a strong understanding of operational reporting tools.
- IATA certifications (e.g., Dangerous Goods Regulations, Live Animals, Perishables).
- Airport Security Clearance and Driver’s Abstract required as a condition of employment.
- First Aid and CPR are an asset
- Class 5 license is required.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Clear understanding of personnel policies, practices, and operational procedures.
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure, 24/7 operational environment with rotating shifts or on-call duties.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to overcome operational challenges.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional, punctual, meticulous, and diligent work ethic.
