Civilian Posting
Reporting to the Supervisor of Fleet Services, this position is responsible for coordinating vehicle maintenance, minimizing downtime on Unit resources, maintaining on-board emergency equipment as well as monitoring and maintaining availability of Divisional fuel supply.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates with Divisional leadership in regards to availability of vehicles scheduled for preventative maintenance/repair.
- Accesses Fleet software to obtain vehicle maintenance records.
- Examines vehicles with reported problems, determining appropriate action to be taken (ex. on-site repair, warranty repair, etc.).
- Arranges the movement and delivery of vehicles as required in conjunction with contracted service providers.
- Drives vehicles to service providers for communication device repairs.
- Moves vehicles to repair facilities as directed by Fleet Management leadership.
- Reports inadequacies with performed service.
- Obtains body shop service estimates and submits to Fleet Manager for approval. Monitors and maintains vehicle downtime report which includes vehicle pickup and return, submitting the report to the Fleet Administrator.
- Inspects vehicles for damages, safety and on-board emergency equipment operation and performs minor mechanical/electrical repairs.
- Ensures operation of emergency lighting equipment during vehicle inspection.
- Maintains inventory of high consumption items (ex. light bulbs, tires, emergency equipment, etc.)
- Records gasoline levels and fuel pump readings, ordering additional fuel.
- Obtains weekly car wash invoices submitting for invoicing.
- Assist with inspection and required return of lease vehicles to the leaser.
- On call schedule requirements for Mobile Command Call-Outs.
- Interact with Service personnel and service providers, exchange routine factual information to relay vehicle status information.
- Other duties, projects, as assigned (individual or group responsibilities).
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Completion of Secondary School.
- Possession of a valid Ontario class G driver's licence.
- Possession of a valid Ontario class DZ driver's licence will be considered an asset.
- Minimum 6 months experience with vehicle maintenance and driving experience in all weather including defensive driving.
- Previous experience and ability to inspect, diagnose and identify problems commonly found on motor vehicles (e.g. Brakes, engine, drivetrain, HVAC, steering, suspension, tires, auxiliary equipment, etc), and to perform minor mechanical/electrical repairs.
- Basic computer competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Proven customer service focus coupled with diplomatic, tactful and confidential approach when exchanging information.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills including the ability to exchange detailed information and provide explanations.
- Ability to follow established procedures.
- Effective organizational skills with proven flexible prioritization and time management abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of a team as well as the ability to work productively with self-direction.
- Possession of a mechanics license will be considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a fleet related occupation will be considered an asset.
Hours
Monday to Friday / Day Shift (may occasionally require flexibility in hours or overtime)
Salary Level
This is a Level 3 position starting at $76,076 (2025-2029 Collective Agreement)
