Human Resources Generalist
Salary: $65,628 to $86,100 per year
Location: Slave Lake
April 7, 2026 to December 15, 2027
Qualifications:
- Human Resource Administration Diploma or other relevant discipline
- A minimum of three (3) years of current progressive Human Resources related experience, preferably working within a unionized environment
- A clean criminal record check prior to commencement
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered

Nature and Scope of Work:
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this position is responsible for the recruitment of staff for various vacancies throughout the College ensuring the selection of qualified and capable employees. This includes the organization of job competitions, offer preparation, tracking employment status, conducting panel chair training and chairing interviews. This position is also responsible for assisting with various human resources functions with a focus on recruitment, onboarding, and retention of employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruitment of Employees
- Act as main point of contact for staffing and recruitment questions and concerns
- Review staffing requests ensuring all information is accurate and present it to Senior Management for approval
- Liaise with department Hiring Manager to generate the advertisement and review the job description making recommendations where needed and reviewing for accuracy before posting
- Ensure jobs are posted on pertinent channels frequented by potential candidates
- Evaluate applications/resumes to confirm their compatibility with the screening criteria
- Verify the candidate’s professional history and qualifications by conducting thorough reference checks when required
- Contact candidates to coordinate interview schedules
- Collaborate with the Hiring Department in the creation of interview questions
- Prepare the interview package for the hiring panel and ensure its distribution to the panel
- Participate in the interview process, performing the role of interview panel chair as required
- Informs unsuccessful candidates on the status of their application
- Provide guidance to the panel chair regarding the interview procedures, overseeing the competitions to ensure adherence to the correct processes
- Participate in decision-making for hiring selections, offering recommendations to the panel chair
- Inform the College of new hire via e-mail announcements
Offer of Employment
- Evaluate successful candidate’s resume for education and experience, consult the Collective Agreement and/or Terms and Conditions of Employment for recommendation on rate of pay
- Evaluates classification requests based on education requirements and recommends a classification range to the Executive Director, Human Resources and Health & Safety including explaining classification range decisions to employees
- Prepare offer documents for review by the Assistant Director, Human Resources and Director, Human Resources
- Upon the approval of the employment offer by management, communicate with the successful candidate and present a verbal offer
- Ensure the formal offer letter has been provided to employee for signature
Onboarding and Retention
- Facilitate onboarding for new team members, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge to integrate smoothly into their roles including requesting computer access for new and returning employees
- Advise managers and employees of College and Human Resources polices, payroll and benefit programs, and other relevant onboarding information for success
- Work as a team in the Human Resources department to ensure successful onboarding lending support to facilitate a smooth process
Other Duties
- Ensure the recruitment and selection manual is up to date
- Assist with development and updating of Human Resources policies, procedures, and regulations
- Assist in providing salary information, recruitment data, and other relevant information to management when requested
- Assist with the termination process by preparing relevant documents and letters as well as attending meetings with employees when required
- Assist the Assistant Director, Human Resources with audits
- Responsible for ensuring record management is maintained as per the record management guidelines
- Participate in committees as appropriate
