We are currently looking for:
Export Permit Specialist
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Export Permit Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the company’s export activities comply with Canadian and international regulatory requirements. This role oversees the end-to-end management of export permit applications, provides compliance support to internal teams, and plays a critical role in the regulatory classification of new products. This position requires close collaboration with multiple departments in a fast-growing international environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full export permit process, including preparation, submission, and follow-up with Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
- Ensure company-wide compliance with Canadian and international export control regulations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on global operations.
- Collaborate closely with operations, sales, and contracts teams to manage exports efficiently and in compliance with regulations.
- Lead the regulatory classification of new products (technologies, components, software, etc.) to determine export control requirements.
- Establish and maintain accurate records and internal documentation related to controlled products, active permits, and compliance activities.
- Advise the VP of Operations and internal stakeholders on regulatory risks related to exports, sensitive products, and restricted destinations.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of internal export compliance policies and procedures.
- Provide internal training on export compliance requirements and best practises.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Logistics, or a related field.
- Strong ability to grasp technical concepts and understand complex products in a multidisciplinary environment (engineering, electronics, software, etc.).
- 2-4 years of experience in export compliance, export permitting, or a related field.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian export control laws, including Global Affairs Canada’s EXCOL procedures.
- Experience in controlled product classification.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken, for effective communication with external and internal stakeholders
