About the role

Nature of the Work & Responsibilities

NATURE OF THE WORK:

The principal and customary role of the employee in this employment class consists, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, in applying special education techniques and methods within the context of an intervention plan or, a program intended for students requiring special support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Indigenous students with individual learning needs as appropriate especially in English, French, and Humanities

  • Refer Indigenous students to appropriate college services according to their need;

  • Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar and Academic Advising to organize pre-registration for Indigenous students;

  • Assist in monitoring, tutoring and mentoring Indigenous students as well as coordinating student tutors and mentors;

  • Organize and prepare study skills and life-skills workshops;

  • Assist with online orientation of remote students;

  • Assist with organization of admission related activities;

  • Maintain administrative documentation related to the tutoring and mentoring programs;

  • Assist in the planning and execution of activities in the First Peoples’ Centre;

  • Collaborate with members of the First Peoples’ Centre

  • Perform other related duties pertaining to the function of the First Peoples’ Centre

Qualifications & Conditions

QUALIFICATIONS:

To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty (Languages & Culture, Indigenous Studies, etc.) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

CONDITIONS:

  • Advanced oral and written English and French language skills; (testing may be required)

  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills; (testing may be required)

  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and worldviews, and First Nations or Inuit communities;

  • Knowledge of tutoring and mentoring activities;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team;

  • Able to solve problems in a fast-paced environment;

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;

  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language spoken by Indigenous peoples in Quebec, such as Cree, Inuktitut or Kanien’kéha is an asset
