As the Youth Justice Social Worker - YARD you will be part of a two-person partnership team with a Calgary Police Services (CPS) sworn officer, to deliver collaborative and comprehensive early intervention services to youth ages 10 to 17, who are at risk of gang involvement. You will work closely with youth who have been identified as exhibiting behaviour which places them at risk for gang involvement. While the primary focus is on youth, YARD engages parents, siblings, schools, community agencies and resources. Primary duties include:

  • In consultation with the youth, family and significant contacts assess and identify the youth's risk factors in order to develop an individualized case plan to address concerns.
  • Monitor progress and modify service as necessary.
  • Provide crisis management, conduct regular and ongoing contacts with other professionals or lay persons involved with the youth to assess progress.
  • Provide support in identifying and solving problems
  • Consult on client's cases at staff meetings and with other professionals.
  • Attend case conferences as applicable (such as group homes, schools, etc.).
  • Manage and maintain positive working relationships between The City, Recovery Alberta and Calgary Police Service
  • Complete daily case notes as well as writing letters of referral to outside agencies in order to obtain additional support or resources required for youth impacted by program
  • Contribute to Program Review, Program Evaluation and Performance Measurement

Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Work and at least 2 years of experience working directly with youth-at-risk and families is required.
  • Must be eligible to be or registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams) is required.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Strong knowledge of community-based resources, an understanding of the youth justice system, family dynamics, and the risks of gang and criminal involvement.
  • Experience dealing with highly confidential information, working in teams or close partnerships, and with vulnerable youth and their families will be considered assets.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication and conflict resolution skills while advocating and developing others.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Workstyle

  • This position works full time from the office, with no remote work options available.

Union: CUPE Local 38

Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 18 months)

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $46.21 - 61.78 per hour

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
