The City of Abbotsford’s Operations department is seeking an experienced Journeyman to join their dynamic team as a**Trades II (Carpenter)**to cover a 12 – 18 month leave. As an integral member of the Building Maintenance team, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and construction of municipal buildings, structures and facilities, and a variety of woodworking, carpentry and related tasks.
Thorough knowledge of the regulations and codes, standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the trade is essential to this position as you prepare estimates of labour and materials and determine the method of installation or repair upon receiving an assignment. You will be knowledgeable of proper safety practices and the demonstrated ability to work in a manner that recognizes personal safety and the safety of others.
In this position your day-to-day responsibilities will be full of variety, from conducting scheduled preventative maintenance inspections of buildings, to responding to emergency repairs and to building new office furniture. As part of a small, dedicated team you will get to experience a full range of facility operation and maintenance activities.
Your technical experience and knowledge, along with your time management and organization skills will make you an asset to the team.
As the ideal candidate you have:
- Completion of Grade 12
- Current British Columbia Red Seal Trades Qualification
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the trade
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $36.87 to $43.36 per hour plus an addition 12.4% in lieu of benefits and vacation.
