The Heritage Planner II, under the direction of the Senior Heritage Planner and Manager of Policy and Heritage Planning, will primarily be responsible for the interpretation, research, and formulation of planning policies, by-law provisions and reports on planning matters following sound planning practice and policies; provide planning and procedural advice and opinion on cultural heritage in relation to the requirements in the Ontario Heritage Act , the Planning Act and the Town’s Planning documents; maintain historical, archaeological, and visual records pertaining to cultural heritage sites throughout the Town; and, provide expert testimony at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings, when required.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
- University Degree in urban, rural, or regional planning or related program.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience, with a focus on heritage, archaeology and/or cultural planning, with Municipal planning experience being an asset.
- Full or provisional membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) working towards an MCIP/ Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation.
- Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) would be an asset.
- Ability to interpret and apply local and provincial planning policy and legislation.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, facilitate meetings and make presentations.
- Proven organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
