About the role
Tourmaline Oil Corp. is a Canadian senior crude oil and natural gas exploration and production company. We
are committed to long-term growth through an active exploration, development, production, and acquisition
program across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
We are currently seeking a Manager - Production Accounting to oversee our production and royalty
accounting functions and lead a large, dynamic team.
This role will be responsible for managing production accounting operations, ensuring compliance, and
driving process improvements while fostering team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a team of 30+ production and royalty accountants, including 3 supervisors and 3
royalty accountants as direct reports.
- Manage monthly revenue, volume, transportation, and royalty accruals.
- Analyze and explain variances included as part of monthly reporting.
- Review production accounting clearing accounts monthly.
- Conduct detailed review and analysis of production numbers and related workbooks.
- Develop innovative mentorship and training programs to build future production accounting talent.
- Provide strategic recommendations and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and
accuracy.
- Work closely with Operations, Marketing, and Finance teams to ensure accurate reporting and
alignment across the business.
- Support integration of new acquisitions into production accounting systems and processes.
- Ensure compliance with CSOX production accounting requirements and support internal/external
audits.
- Oversee preparation of government and regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Champion the adoption of new technology and automation to streamline workflows.
- Act as the key point of contact for complex production accounting issues and escalations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA designation is an asset.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in oil & gas accounting, with extensive experience in a
leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of production and royalty accounting processes, reporting, and regulatory
requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with production accounting systems (e.g., Qbyte PA, PAS, or equivalent).
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop large teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner effectively across
departments.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a track record of driving process enhancements.
