Industrial Controls-Electrical Designer
About the role
Job Description Your Impact This key position on Samuel Automation’s Controls team, is responsible for creating electrical drawings and panel layouts in accordance with customer requirements and external (CSA, ESA, OSHA, etc.), company and department standards and policies. This position relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Required to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and Other Policies
- Communicate with engineering in order to fully understand sequence of operation
- Determine requirements for design from quote and customer specifications
- Create electrical drawings, panel layouts, and engraved panels using AutoCAD Electrical to required standards
- Create electrical bill of material for purchasing
- Assist technicians by explaining and wiring panels and machinery when required
- Arrange for any inspections required
- Update AutoCAD Electrical drawings to reflect as-built changes as required
- Ensure that a complete and accurate set of final drawings are available
- All above duties are to be performed in a timely manner and in an ISO 9001 environment.

Level of Autonomy and Authority
- Receives instructions on specific assignments.
- Expected to work independently to complete electrical design package for individual panels and entire lines or machines according to established standards
- Complex circuits or requirements referred to higher authority for guidance and review.
- Gives technical guidance to Technicians, Electricians and Apprentices with respect to electrical design issues and standard
Key Requirements
- Should be proficient in the use of AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical
- Should have practical experience in wiring panels and automated machinery
- Must understand the Ontario Electrical Code
- Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret written and verbal communications in the English language
- Must be able communicate effectively with customers
- Must be able to work with others in a fast-paced environment
Working conditions Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts
Physical Requirements Must be physically able to trouble shoot and calibrate machinery from standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching and prone positions. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms, hands and fingers during this time. May need to lift and/or move moderate weight.
