ANNUAL SALARY: $95,823.00 - $119,847.00

About the Role:

Reporting to the Vice President Human Resources, the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development will support the organization and drive business results by developing and implementing programing in relation to compensation, benefits, pension, training and development, health safety and wellness, talent attraction, talent acquisition, onboarding, retention, performance management, coaching / development, succession planning and rewards & recognition, in pursuit of a positive employee experience. The incumbent will pro-actively recommend plans and activities to nurture a fun, innovative, supportive, and engaging culture within the organization. Responsibilities may include:

  • Through actions, supports the Mission, Vision, Values, Strategic Plan and core competencies of Kerry’s Place
  • Support the development and execution of strategies that are aligned with HR best practices
  • Proactively identify gaps, propose solutions, and implement changes with a focus on recruitment, retention, operational excellence
  • Provides strategic advice and tactical support to the VP HR and all levels of management on workplace trends and significant, complex and sensitive issues including implementation of large/transformational changes, progressive and inclusive talent management strategies, consultation on the development of people plans and related initiatives to enable strategic business goals, risk management and compliance with arbitral jurisprudence, employment legislation and case law
  • Partner with the VP HR to re-imagine, own and lead the execution of the overall HR Strategy to attract, develop and retain employees; drive market advantage; and address opportunities and threats
  • Work with leaders and leadership teams to further cultivate an inclusive, innovative, empowering and engaging culture across the enterprise; actively building both short and long-term plans to engage and prepare the workforce for the future
  • Seeks opportunities and facilitates the integration of lean methodologies and quality tools into practices and processes
  • Reimagine and co-own impact and efficiency across HR function, leading projects, leading department meetings, and co-creating learning and team building activities for the team
  • Provides expertise, advice and coaching to HR and Leaders related to building positive employee experience and organizational culture, ensuring all decisions and advice consider equity, diversity and inclusion of employees. The incumbent will support to identify and eliminate systemic barriers and create equity and inclusion for all employees
  • Maintains HR and OD budget (includes authorization of expenditures up to $10,000 up to but not including $50,000)
  • Represents Kerry’s Place at HR provincial planning tables, project teams and task groups
  • Monitors, analyzes and evaluates metrics and data reporting to EMM and the Board
  • Working with legal, MOL and unions to ensure that standards and requirements are met
  • Ensures professional and thorough record keeping of individual and employee records
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Qualifications:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration or related field of study
  • Human Resource designation i.e. CHRL preferred

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive human resources generalist experience or five (5) years progressive management experience, or combination thereof
  • Current successful strategic and operational human resources experience ideally obtained in a not-for-profit, unionized environment, particularly a developmental services sector
  • Demonstrated experience in project and change management
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and supporting a variety of human resources initiatives, recruitment and retention programs in a highly unionized workplace
  • People management including mentoring, coaching, training and development
  • Solid knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures, and employment-related legislation (Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel including advanced working knowledge of creating and managing complex spreadsheets and/or other technical programs e.g. HRIS
  • Ability to take initiative, adapt and prioritize effectively a changing work environment is essential to success in this role
  • Ability to role-model creativity, courage, values, innovation, and ability to translate HR data into critical business insights
  • Thrive in and nurture an inclusive, supportive & creative environment with a strong focus on exceptional business delivery
  • Exceptional communicator and facilitator
  • Proven track record in building strong relationships, fostering trust and promoting collaboration with all levels
  • Proven success in client relationship management with an ability to develop credibility and influence decisions
  • Ability to lead and manage effectively in a large, multi-site, matrixed, fluid, and fast-paced environment
  • Excellent strategic planning, budgeting, financial and time management skills
  • French language is considered an asset

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision and within prescribed timelines. Self-motivation is required
  • Ability to be flexible and motivated in dealing with a fluctuating and unpredictable workload
  • Position requires a Valid Driver’s License, access to a reliable vehicle and willingness and ability to travel within Kerry’s Place regions

Welcome to Kerry’s Place Autism Services. We are Canada’s largest service provider to families with children, adolescents, and adults, with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Since 1974 Kerry’s Place has been creating, and providing evidence-based supports and services across the province of Ontario that enhance the quality of life of those with ASD.

Today, we are envisioning a future where all persons with ASD are participating fully in their communities.

With staff numbering more than 1200, Kerry’s Place is one of the only organizations in the country that serves the entire life span of those with ASD.

Through the Ontario Autism Program, we provide children and youth - and their families - a menu of timely, evidence-based services needed to achieve their goals at home, at school, and within their communities. This initiative serves individuals with ASD up to age 18, delivering skill-building groups, individual consultation, and family support.

We provide numerous Community Services and Supports, including our day and overnight respite options to provide a well-deserved break for families with loved ones with Autism, along with our many camps and leisure groups.

Our Adult Skill-Building and Peer Support Groups broaden the social circle for every individual we support. Our Employment Programs lend assistance to young adults with Autism to help develop skills that lead to meaningful employment opportunities.

We provide adults with ASD Residential and Semi-Independent Living Supports at 90 distinct properties across Ontario. Our group living approach provides a safe, 24 hour, home environment where residents are encouraged to pursue their own personal goals including outings into the community, employment, and an array of interests. Many of our residence grow with Kerry’s Place, spending upwards of 30 years with us. And through a lifetime of shared pursuits and generational experiences, we too, grow with them.
