POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Sncewips Senior Manager, the Sncewips Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing, promoting, and delivering clear and consistent messaging about Sncewips Heritage Museum and Gift Shop and its affiliated programs, inclusive of our Language & Culture department. This role leads all aspects of internal and external communications, including social media, digital and print promotions, website content, and public engagement. The Communications Coordinator works closely with staff, contractors, and external partners to enhance awareness of Sncewips' cultural language, and museum-based programming, including events, workshops, and exhibitions. The position also supports branding and media relations to ensure alignment with organizational values and strategic goals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associates degree in at least one of the following: Communications, Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, History, Education, Arts, Fine Arts
- Certification in Culture or Museum Studies programs such as Community Engagement, Cultural Resource Management or Intercultural Studies preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in administrative functions
- Minimum of 2 years working experience and knowledge of Indigenous communities and organizations and practical experience in a cultural center setting
- Experience managing social media accounts and websites in a professional capacity
- An equivalent combination of education & experience may be considered

- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
Develops, implements, and maintains advertising campaigns to promote Snc
- wips programs, events, exhibitions, and gift shop sales, including selecting appropriate channels (print, digital, social media, radio, etc.), creating or coordinating ad content, scheduling placements, and tracking campaign performance Keeps the public informed and up-to-date on the workings of Sncwips via social media, the Snc- wips website, WFN community newsletter and any other appropriate platforms
- Liaises with the WFN Communications department to ensure consistent branding and promotion of programs and events across all relevant platforms. Keeps WFN members and the broader Okanagan Nation/Syilx community informed about Snc- wips operations through regular social media updates
- Liases with other Okanagan Nation communities/bands and the ONA to ensure our programs and events are shared on all their relevant platforms
- Collaborates with contractors, students, and staff on promotional projects and internal communications, including shared templates, updates, and cross-department messaging Develops and maintains Sncwips branding guidelines to be utilized by Sncwips staff to ensure consistent branding across all Snc- wips departments
- Monitors and responds to messages received through the museum inbox, ensuring timely follow-up or delegation to appropriate team members.
- Coordinates the monthly Culture Request Review Process:

- Collects and prepares all incoming requests for group review
- Presents requests during the meeting, facilitates discussion, and ensures decisions are documented
- Communicates outcomes to requesters, including respectfully declining requests when necessary and notifying recommended community members or Elders
- Drafts and submits award nominations and recognition packages on behalf of Sncewips, contributing to the museum's local and national visibility; supports tracking and documentation of past nominations and wins
- Represents Sncewips at community events and other outreach functions, helping build and maintain relationships with external partners
- Collaborates with Sncewips staff to support the planning and promotion of programs, events, and workshops, including poster creation, registration setup, and on-site logistics when needed
- Assists with developing communication tools such as event agendas, itineraries, signage, and MC scripts
- Manages photo and media archives related to events and public engagement for future reuse and reporting
- Compiles annual analytical report of participation and social media engagement
- Informs guests of on and off-site exhibitions and activities
- Ensures all public-facing digital content meets accessibility standards
- Operates, maintains, researches, and writes content for the museum website
- Writes and distributes announcements to promote new and existing activities, events, and services Creates and distributes promotional materials such as brochures, Snc- wips quarterly newsletter, announcements, advertisements, and media posts
- Advises and resolves customer concerns in response to written, verbal, and in-person enquiries.
- Investigates, develops, and implements process improvements
- Maintains best museum practices in regards to handling, storage, transportation, and display of all museum collection items Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures, and as assigned by the Snc- wips Senior Manager
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Knowledge of museum and administration software and databases, including but not limited to CatalogIt, Pastperfect, Microsoft Office, Squarespace, Photoshop considered
- Familiarity with and an understanding of Okanagan/Syilx protocols regarding the handling and care of culturally sensitive collection items
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal)
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and commitment to efficiency
- Basic knowledge of Syilx language is an asset
- Strong research and analytical skills including problem-solving methodologies
- Demonstrates strong administrative skills and the ability to set priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Outgoing and friendly professional with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service at all times\
