About the role

A community-focused organization is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join its Finance and People Operations team. This position offers the opportunity to manage end-to-end payroll while partnering with HR and leadership to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. It's an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys process improvement and providing exceptional internal support. About the Role

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will oversee full-cycle payroll processing, maintain payroll records, ensure compliance with applicable legislation, and respond to employee payroll inquiries. You'll also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support payroll systems, reporting, audits, and continuous process improvements.

What You'll Do

Process bi-weekly payroll for a large employee population, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

Review and validate employee time records, payroll changes, and supporting documentation.

Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and leaders while resolving discrepancies.

Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, benefit changes, and direct deposit updates.

Prepare payroll remittances, government filings, pension contributions, benefit deductions, and other required reports.

Assist with year-end payroll activities, including tax reporting and statutory reconciliations.

Support payroll audits and provide required documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Partner with HR to produce payroll-related reports and maintain data integrity.

Provide guidance and support to internal users of payroll systems and assist with process documentation and training.

Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, workflows, and system functionality.

Maintain strict confidentiality when handling employee and payroll information.

What You'll Bring

Diploma or post-secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting, Payroll, or a related field.

Payroll certification (or progress toward one) is considered an asset.

Minimum of 2 years of full-cycle payroll experience.

Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory remittances, and year-end payroll processes.

Advanced attention to detail with excellent numerical accuracy and organizational skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with payroll or HR information systems.

Ability to manage competing priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.

Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Experience in a unionized environment and bilingual communication skills are considered assets.
