Position Overview
ABC Recycling is seeking an experienced, full-time (40 hours per week) Mobile Shear Operator to work out of our Burnaby, BC yard. Reporting to the General Manager, the Mobile Shear Operators are responsible for operating mid-sized excavators with the mobile shear-attachment (specifically a Labounty Shear attachment), sorting and processing scrap metal to specifications. This role is primarily based out of Burnaby, BC, but may require working offsite around the lower mainland and has the potential for travel outside of the region.
Responsibilities
- Downsize and breakdown oversized material into smaller sections to be fed into other machinery for further breakdown and sorting.
- Dismantle railcars.
- Self-manages when operating offsite.
- Adheres to ABC's workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
- Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
- Completes all necessary paperwork. May include, but not limited to, daily logs, inspection logs, delivery receipts, vehicle inspection, hours of service, etc.
- Cleans, lubricates, align shims tightens blades, and performs other minor preventative maintenance on the machine.
- Diagnoses/identifies defects on heavy duty equipment and repots to manger.
- Maintains working knowledge of changes in technology and operation techniques.
- Maintains general housekeeping in work areas and inside equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
- Communicates with fellow workers in a professional manner.
- Complies with all PPE requirements for the task.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years related training or experience operating different types of excavators, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders.
- Prior experience with scrap metal recycling, operating a shear attachment or demolition would be a definite asset.
- Mechanical aptitude coupled with strong hand/eye coordination.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Safety conscious.
- Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally.
IMPORTANT:
We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you may also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
