About the role
POSITION BACKGROUND:
In this position, you will assist other yard personnel and Project Managers with a variety of tasks, while learning the basics of maintenance and equipment operation, including but not limited to operating various hand tools, loaders, skid steers, etc. The Yard Hand is expected to be adaptable, eager to learn, and have basic mechanical aptitude.
CORE DUTIES:
Daily Operations
- Receive, understand and execute instructions from Yard Foreman and senior employees
- Clean equipment and tools using high-power pressure washer
- Disassemble equipment, if needed, to thoroughly clean
- Identify faulty/damaged equipment and/or defective materials and inform supervisor of problem
- Safely transport equipment and materials
- Load, unload, and stage equipment
- Correctly operate all equipment including but not limited to forklift, loader, and skid steer
- Perform regular inspections, safety, maintenance, and servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of equipment
- Maintain equipment so it is presentable and works properly
- Pick orders for yard shipments as per Project Manager’s direction
- Complete all required paperwork on a daily basis, including equipment inspection checklists, PSI, and Daily Job Control Sheets
- Perform routine maintenance duties in the yard as required
- Cooperate with the Training Department for scheduling of new/ recertification training
- Ensure all Ketek policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed
- Participate in daily Tool Box talks
- Utilize checklists, inspections, work procedures and safety guidelines to complete tasks
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe, efficient and timely manner
- Perform routine housekeeping duties
Other Duties
- Complete all required paperwork on a daily basis, including hazard assessment and Daily Job Control Sheet
- Cooperate with Training department for scheduling of new/recertification training
- Observe all safety procedures and use proper Personal Protective Equipment
- Ensure all Ketek’s work procedures, policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed
- Represent Ketek in a light that is commensurate with the values of the Corporate Vision and Mission Statements
- Be considerate of the needs of our community and the environment

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Required
- Equipment operator training and/or certification
- Minimum of 2 years oilfield and/or construction experience
- Devoted to following code of ethics and safety rules
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and clean driver’s abstract
- High school diploma or GED
- Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken)
- Experience working with basic hand tools
- Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent demanding deadlines
- Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high level prioritization skills
- Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
Preferred

Basic knowledge of submersible pumps

Experience on oilfield or oilsands sites
-
Experience in dewatering, well-testing, or water transfer

Experience with pick tickets, material transfers and rental tickets, and QA/QC

Fire Extinguisher knowledge

Zoom Boom or Telehandler experience
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, stoop, climb, lift, balance, kneel and use of hands/fingers to operate tools, machinery and materials

Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required

Use of mechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, and dolly may be required
-
Regular exposure to loud noises and metal particulates – hearing and respiratory protection is provided when needed
-
Exposure to sharp edges, pinch points, trip and slip hazards, and blind spots
-
May be required to work in high, precarious places that are near moving parts and/or electrical works or in confined spaces
Work Environment
- Shop and yard environments (100%)
- Required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours
- Required to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat
- May be required to work near moving parts and/or electrical work
