Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Sales Associate III supports the Store manager ensuring the efficient and effective reclamation, processing, and distribution of goods at the thrift store; providing excellent service to guests, fulfilling various sales and production roles within the store, and assists the manager by directing tasks and providing oversight, as assigned. Will be responsible for opening/closing and daily reporting. In addition, the Supervisor authorizes payments and return merchandise, resolves problems and guest complaints as they arise, and assists in training and monitoring new staff.
Accountabilities:
Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below.
- Support Store Manager in directing operations of the Thrift store
- Ensure attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”
- Monitor loss prevention program in compliance with the budget
- Oversee and participates in facility management including cleaning, maintenance, repairs in/outside and grounds maintenance
- Ensure proper processing of donations and store merchandising
- Comply with all legislative and company policies and procedures adhering to Health and Safety, Operations, Financial, and other company policies
- Lock up sales cash and receipts at the end of each shift
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Purchase of items required by the Thrift Store
- Prepare paperwork for weekly Sales to Accounting Operations
- Provide supervision to staff and volunteers and ensures adherence to quality standards for volunteers or temporary staff for special events/activities in the absence of Store Manager/Corps Officers
- Takes responsibility for staff safety by ensuring overall compliance with all safety procedures and
- Monitor performance and employee/labour relations issues and provide report and feedback to Store Manager/Corps Officers
- Provide resolution to employee and guest concerns or refer as necessary
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- This role is involved in minor financial matters regularly, and or has responsibility for the wise use of her own resources
- Management, safekeeping, and proper processing of donations, merchandise, facility, and equipment in the store
- May be accountable for operating and maintaining of specialized equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the store with exposure to odours, used, possibly dirty and dusty items, extreme temperature changes (from store receiving area or door screening of consumers, to cash desk), truck fumes, store noise, verbal abuse, exposure to the general public, the marginalized, and potentially people with mental or behavioral illnesses
- Flexible work schedule including Saturdays required
- Requires regular application of physical force to move/lift/transport awkward objects and/or materials which can weigh up to 29 lbs
- May be required to lift heavier weights up to 29 lbs frequently with no assistance form others.
- Kneeling and occasionally twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, and reaching overhead
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- More than one year of prior retail and supervisory experience.
- Cash handling experience is required.
Skills and Attributes:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
- Brand awareness would be a definite asset
- Basic math skills required to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills
- Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset
- Ability to lift/move up to 29 pounds on a regular basis
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
- Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment
- Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority

This is a Temporary full time position.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.05 to $22.56 with a maximum of $27.07.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
