Manage compliance and operational programs – Ensure Occupational Health & Safety, antiharassment, and related legislative standards are met within the unit's operations.

Support strategic decision-making – Prepare briefing materials, contribute to central agency submissions, advise on resource pricing and tenure, and exercise strong judgment under tight timelines.

Lead policy and economic analysis – Coordinate the design, review, and evaluation of resource management strategies , through economic impact analysis, timber pricing strategies, and policy initiatives affecting competitiveness of the forest industry.

Oversee international trade responsibilities – Support Ontario's role in trade matters such as the softwood lumber dispute, liaising with federal and provincial partners, and assisting in litigation, and strategic trade positioning

Provide expert advisory support – Offer professional advice to senior government officials on trade, timber pricing, policy, and economic development to strengthen Ontario's forest industry.

Coordinate economic and socioeconomic studies – Lead analysis of forest management issues, industry trends, and economic impacts to inform policy direction and program development.

Guide industry relations and development initiatives – Represent the ministry in restructuring, diversification, and value-added initiatives that support economic growth and attract investment.

Lead and supervise staff – Oversee recruitment, performance management, training, mentorship, workload coordination, and support staff development in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Meet Your New Team
The**Forest Economics Section (FES)**is the strategic engine behind Ontario's forest sector, driving the economic insight, policy direction, and industry intelligence that shape the province's evolving forest economy. FES leads the administration of Ontario's timber pricing system, champions international trade priorities for the forest products sector, and develops forward-thinking policies and programs that unlock new opportunities within the growing forest bioeconomy. As MNR's centre of expertise on forest sector economics, FES monitors key business and market trends and produces essential annual forestry statistics—including employment, revenue, GDP and exports—to inform policy decisions and support industry competitiveness. The section also manages key financial functions, including Crown timber revenue analysis and accounts receivable, and supports sustainable forest management through the administration and reimbursement of silviculture expenditures. Through these activities, FES play a critical role in ensuring Ontario's forest sector remains competitive, innovative, sustainable, and economically strong.
