Position Overview:
The Shift Lab Technician is responsible for participating in the mill Quality Management System by conducting both quality assurance and quality control activities throughout the mill. The rotating shift position provides a supporting role to the production team in all manners affecting product quality during their shift.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform mechanical and physical testing on incoming raw materials and finished product (wood, resin, wax, strands, edge seal, panels).

Offload of resin/wax/release agent, verifying product ID, and accepting C of A data and offloading.

Perform certification sample collection, grading, testing, and shipment as per APA requirements.

Ensure proper operation of process control equipment, (moisture meters, weigh belts, press temperature, online density gauge, blow detector, flow meters, knife settings)
-
Assists in the training of production technicians on performing quality checks throughout the process.

Participates in process improvement and experimental trials throughout the mill.
-
Assist with the calibration of process instruments and laboratory measuring equipment e.g., tape measures, calipers, flowmeters, thickness gauges, blow detectors, load cells, mdi monitors, process sensors i.e., level, temperature, pressure, etc.

Blender and atomizer operational support (atomizer flushing and change out, wax nozzle cleaning)

Supports in lab inventory management.

Competent in safe use of table saw, and miter saw operation.

Operating forklift.
-
General house cleaning duties of lab designated areas.

Coverage of Day Shift Lab position as required.

Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Good communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
- Mechanically and analytically inclined, previous lab experience, attention to details are strong assets.
- Committed to safety first culture.
- Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Understanding of the inter-relationship between log yard, wood room, debarking, stranding, dryers, screening, blending, forming line, pressing, finishing line and shipping is an asset.
