Electronic Product Development Engineer

The Electronic Product Development Engineer is the technical leader responsible for the controller platform at Vortex, including architecture, development, standardization, roadmap execution, and regulatory compliance. The role ensures the quality, safety, performance, and technological evolution of the controllers used in our industrial products.

Key Responsibilities Controller Platform Vision and Management

  • Define, maintain, and execute the controller technology roadmap.
  • Standardize electronic architectures to optimize reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Define long-term strategies for system-on-modules (SOM), power supply, protections, sensors/actuators, and industrial communications.
  • Ensure consistency across product generations.
  • Evaluate and integrate relevant technologies to accelerate development and improve robustness.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, manufacturing operations, technical support, and product marketing.

Design and Development (Technical Lead)

  • Design, validate, and document electronic circuits: analog, digital, power supply, industrial interfaces, and SOM/MCU integration.
  • Produce schematics, bills of materials (BOM), risk analyses, design reviews, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee PCB design and actively participate in layout reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with EMC/EMI, ESD, and applicable standards (UL, CSA, CE).
  • Define and execute electronic validation plans.
  • Develop and review electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop or specify test benches required for production and qualification.
  • Support production with testing, diagnostics, and field issue resolution.

Compliance and Professional Responsibility

  • Act as the OIQ signing engineer for electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with Quebec, North American, and international standards.
  • Promote and enforce safe design best practices.
  • Support regulatory certification processes.

Experience And Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in industrial or embedded electronic system design.

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in analog and digital circuits, low-voltage power systems, and protection circuits.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience with SOM / microcontroller integration.
  • Strong understanding of EMC/EMI and ESD design rules.
  • Knowledge of Canadian, U.S., and European electrical standards.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux.
  • Ability to estimate costs and effort and understand manufacturing constraints.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Bilingual French/English with clear technical communication skills (Intermediate level of English is required).
  • Strong attention to detail, autonomy, organization, and results orientation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • Innovative mindset and openness to new technologies, including the active use of AI in development.

Proficiency in English is required for this role as approximately 20% of the responsibilities involve regular communication with stakeholders based in the United States and Europe.
