Job Description

The Applications Engineer supports John Crane’s Wet Seal product line, applying engineering knowledge to ensure products meet customer specifications, perform reliably, and are applied correctly in rotating equipment systems. This role is primarily office-based, providing technical support to internal teams and customers, performing design calculations, and reviewing applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance on seal type, design, and materials of construction based on application requirements.
  • Perform design calculations and prepare application documentation.
  • Approve layouts and manufacturing drawings, ensuring compliance with end-user requirements using technical literature and specialized calculations.
  • Analyze product performance, conduct failure analysis, and document findings in failure reports with recommendations.
  • Review customer specifications and participate in technical calls with Sales Engineering.
  • Recommend materials and components based on operating conditions and the product being pumped.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, and purchasing teams to resolve technical queries.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to assist with problem resolution or product installation.
  • Assemble and/or test products when required.
  • Complete other engineering duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related).
  • 2–4 years of relevant working engineering experience.
  • Experience with rotating equipment, mechanical seals, pump OEMs, or industrial end-users preferred.
  • Knowledge of materials selection for industrial applications is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • CAD and FEA skills (Solid Edge preferred) are a plus but not required.
