About the role

Direct Support Professional (DSP) employees work with people who experience developmental disabilities as they live in their homes and communities. This position assists people in their daily life, working with them and their connections to ensure that they can live fully in the community. Direct Support Professionals recognize people's rights to direct their life, understanding that each person has unique gifts and needs, and they support people to learn skills for their own growth and development.

Experience Required:

    • Plan and facilitate daily activities including life skills, recreation, arts and crafts, community outings, and wellness programs.
    • Provide direct support to participants with personal care mobility, and communication as needed.
    • Promote inclusion, dignity, and respect in all interactions.
    • Assist in developing and implementing individualized support plans.
    • Monitor and document participant progress, behaviors, and incidents.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment.
    • Communicate effectively with team members, families, and external professionals.
    • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Access to reliable transportation (some travel required)

Preferred:

  • Previous Developmental Services work experience
  • 6 months relevant experience to this position preferred
  • Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or post-secondary education in a related field
