Career and Engagement Advisor (Contract) - Job Reference #202509-01C
DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Career Advisor will provide education and assistance to students in career planning support and job search assistance.
The successful candidate will:

Meet with students in person and online to provide one to one assistance with job searching and career planning.

Refers students for support in resume and cover letter preparation and mock interviews with students.

Support people to understand and navigate employment and institutional systems.
-
Facilitates or assists with events related to career and employments programming including information sessions and workshops Develops career related content for Career Connect website
-
Works with students to discuss career aspirations and identify meaningful engagement opportunities in collaboration with the Student Transition and Engagement Coordinator
-
Stay up to date with of current career development issues and labour market trends.

Support Faculty and Academic Advisors to develop depth of understanding of how to facilitate effective career and co-op conversations.

Work with corporate partners to identify suitable internship and volunteer opportunities for students.

Plan and execute advertising campaigns to promote job shadowing/internships opportunities on campus, online and in the community
-
Build or facilitate access to career resources that anticipate and target campus partners needs in supporting students.

Delivers career training and preparation classes to students, and develops new opportunities for students to network as a way to develop their skills.

Provides programs for international students such as our Global Chats Program

Assists with King’s Promise events such as Open House, SAO, career fair, volunteer fair
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must have:
-
Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Post secondary education in employment counselling, career development or human resources.

A minimum of two years of previous relevant experience.
-
Experience and training in the area of recruiting, providing comprehensive career and job search counselling, resume development and interview skills required.
-
Experience in an academic or industry setting Experience networking and building strong relationships with industry and corporate partners.
-
Strong communication skills including; writing, speaking and presenting.
-
Experience with Event organization.
-
Familiarity with best practices for maintaining, seeking out and developing business relationships and partnerships with the ability to generate additional work opportunities.
-
Ability to apply career advising knowledge to one-on-one and group interactions.
-
Ability to collaborate across internal and external teams to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond ones own unity.
-
Ability to establish rapport with people from divese backgrounds
-
Ability to work independantly and exercise a high degree of initiative, innovation and good judgement in decision-making.

In depth knowledge of labour market trends and employment search skills
-
In depth understanding of the needs of students who face additional barriers to employment.
-
Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate events and activities outside traditional business hours.
TYPE OF JOB:
Full-Time Contract until April 30, 2026 (35 hours per week)
EFFECTIVE DATE:
As soon as possible
SALARY RANGE:
PSG 10 - $60,388 - $75,611 per annum, dependent on experience
