The Role
As a Packaging Lead Hand, you will support the Packaging Supervisor in overseeing the daily operations of a busy meat processing and packaging department in Hamilton, ON. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll work alongside the production team while ensuring products are packaged safely, efficiently, and according to customer, quality, food safety, and regulatory standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced food manufacturing professional looking to step into a leadership position with a well-established and growing company in Hamilton, ON. Responsibilities
Support the Packaging Supervisor with coordinating daily packaging operations Assist with production line setup, changeovers, and start-up activities Ensure products are packaged according to customer specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements Verify product labels, lot codes, date coding, packaging materials, and case configurations before production begins Monitor packaging lines throughout the shift to ensure productivity, quality, and efficiency Provide leadership, coaching, and day-to-day support to packaging employees Conduct routine quality inspections and ensure adherence to product specifications and SOPs Identify and resolve packaging or quality concerns before products leave the department Support value-added packaging operations including slicing, portioning, tray packing, and vacuum packaging Work closely with Quality Assurance to address product or process issues Complete production, quality, and traceability documentation accurately Train new employees on packaging procedures, food safety, and safe work practices Promote compliance with HACCP, GMP, CFIA regulations, sanitation, allergen control, and company food safety programs Assist with workflow planning and labour allocation to maximize production efficiency Act as the department lead in the absence of the Packaging Supervisor Promote a safe workplace by ensuring PPE requirements and safety procedures are followed
Requirements
Previous experience in meat processing, food manufacturing, or packaging operations Previous Lead Hand, Team Lead, or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment Strong understanding of HACCP, GMPs, food safety, and quality systems Ability to read production schedules, product specifications, and work instructions Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Comfortable working in a refrigerated production environment Able to perform moderate physical labour and stand for extended periods Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products
