Full-Time Patient Care Technician
Vision Care on Woodward – Ottawa, ON
Overview
Vision Care on Woodward is the newest location within our group of clinics, joining our established practices Merivale Vision Care and Wellington Vision Care. As we continue to grow, we are excited to welcome team members who want to help build a positive patient experience and support the continued success of our clinics.
The Patient Care Technician supports daily clinic operations by preparing patients for eye exams, completing diagnostic pre-testing, and assisting with administrative and optical support tasks. This is a hands-on, patient-facing role that requires strong organization, reliability, and the ability to work independently while supporting the broader clinical team.

Monday – Friday
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for eye examinations and support clinical workflow
- Perform pre-testing procedures including autorefraction, tonometry, lensometry, and patient history intake
- Conduct diagnostic imaging including Optomap, OCT, Myah axial length measurements, corneal topography, and visual field testing
- Provide contact lens teaches and patient education
- Manage patient flow from check-in through pre-testing and into exam rooms
- Prepare, clean, and stock pre-test and exam rooms
- Open and close the pre-test room, ensuring equipment readiness at the start of the day and proper shutdown at the end of the day
- Communicate workflow needs, delays, or findings with the clinical team
Administrative & Optical Support
- Answer phones, return voicemails, and respond to emails
- Book, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
- Order, receive, and unpack contact lenses
- Learn optical products including frame collections and lens options
- Assist with basic frame selection and adjustments when needed
- Check patients in and out, process payments using the POS system
- Complete end-of-day administrative tasks including balancing the till and updating required spreadsheets
- Ensure patients receive a welcoming and high-quality service experience throughout their visi
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Warm, professional interaction with patients
- Strong time management and multitasking abilities
- Comfort using diagnostic equipment and clinic software
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrated punctuality, reliability, and consistent attendance
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
- Optometric or medical office experience is considered an asset
