As a key member of the Corporate Financial Reporting team, the Manager, Corporate Accounting is responsible for supervising the centralized Payroll Accounting function for both OMERS and Oxford. The position reports to the Director, Corporate Accounting and manages a team of accounting professionals.

The Manager, Corporate Accounting will partner with the HR team, execute a range of activities in the processing and reconciliation of payroll for all OMERS and Oxford employees and actively participate in process improvement projects with stakeholders. This role will be responsible for streamlining and optimizing the processes and controls governing the recording of payroll costs in the general ledger. The person who fills this role will be a key member of the OMERS Corporate Finance team. Our ambitions are high: we aim to be the best corporate finance team in the Canadian pension industry.

We believe that time together in the office is important for OMERS and Oxford, the strength of our employees, and the work we do for our pension members. Our hybrid work guideline requires teams to come to the office a minimum of 4 days per week.

As the manager of this team, you will be responsible for:
Collaborating with payroll and technology teams in HR to optimize data processes, and integrations for payroll costing.

Developing a collaborative relationship with key stakeholders, including finance business partners and external auditors.

Reviewing journal entries and reconciliations to ensure sufficient supporting documentation and adherence to OMERS internal controls.

Identifying opportunities for process improvements and monitoring critical KPIs on integrations and manual journal entries.

Actively represent Corporate Finance in HR project meetings to ensure accounting requirements are met in the new Workday payroll system.

Reviewing schedules and supporting documentation for semi-annual and year-end audits.

Liaising with FP&A, Corporate Accounting, and Property Managers on various financial reporting and analytics related to payroll expenses

Ownership and coordination of workflows within the Payroll Accounting team ensuring all timelines and service levels are met

Managing and supporting the development of team members, ensuring that they are given the opportunity to develop and grow in their respective roles

Participate in other accounting duties and ad-hoc projects, as required

To succeed in this role, you have:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting;

Successful completion of an accounting designation;

Team player, and experience managing direct reports;

Experience with process improvements, reengineering, design and internal controls;

Knowledge of CRA payroll taxes, EI and CPP calculations is preferred;

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently;

Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately (both verbal and written);

High standards of business and ethical values including the ability to deal with confidential information;

Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build relationships within immediate team and across departments, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture; and

Knowledge of Finance and HR systems, where experience with Oracle, JD Edwards, Ceridian Dayforce, and Workday would be an asset.
