The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. Job Description
The People & Culture team is seeking a full-time summer student for a 4-month term from May to August 2026. For the right student, this time frame could be extended. This role provides broad exposure to core Human Resources functions, and supports the People & Culture team with administrative, systems, and project-based tasks across areas such as Talent Acquisition, Records Management, and Data & Analytics (Workday).
The successful candidate will play a key part in a records management migration project, assist with recruitment coordination and, help improve data reporting governance in Workday.
The ideal student has completed at least 3 years of post-secondary in a Human Resources or related program, is organized, tech-savvy, and eager to learn about People and Culture operations, systems, and processes.
Key accountabilities:
Talent Acquisition
- Participate in intake meetings with hiring leaders to create and clarify job descriptions; including position scope, key responsibilities, qualifications, and competencies.
- Prepare and update job postings.
- Screen applicant resumes and maintain candidate progress flow in Workday.
- Assist hiring leaders with interview question templates.
- Assist with planning campus engagement activities (dependent on season of hire).
- Working cross-functionally with the HRIS team, help with new hire onboarding tasks such as preparing welcome materials.
Records Management
- Within the scope of the projects assigned, and with oversight from the P&C team, recommend and implement an electronic file structure and assist with moving electronic records from internal drives to SharePoint.
- Review and organize documents, apply naming conventions, and eliminate duplicates, tagging and categorizing files for easy navigation.
- Help create simple job aids or quick-reference guides for the People & Culture team.
- Support testing of folder structures, permissions, and usability.
Data & Analytics
- Review existing HRIS reports in Workday to identify duplicates, outdated versions, or inconsistent titling.
- Apply reporting naming conventions, folder standards, and governance guidelines.
- Validate report outputs and assist with maintaining a governance log documenting changes and status updates.
- Help organize reporting resources or documentation for HRIS.
- Support simple HR system testing or validating new features in Workday.
General People & Culture Administration
- Provide support for ad‑hoc projects across People & Culture, which may include supporting:
- Talent review discussions or the development of resources.
- Workday talent data administration.
- CultureAmp survey administration.

- Completed at least 3 years (6 semesters) of a post-secondary program in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
- A familiarity with Enterprise systems or HR systems is helpful but not required.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365 tools (SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Excel) is also an advantage.
- Previous work experience in a customer- centric capacity is also considered an asset.

Manage and operate the energy markets In Alberta, companies own generation, transmission and distribution facilities. We dispatch the power sold by generators, using the lowest-priced electricity first and then the next lowest until the need for power has been satisfied. We also enforce transmission tariffs and regulations, keeping the market fair and open for everyone.
Plan the future of the system and its infrastructure As Alberta grows, so does its need for electricity. We plan ahead and expand the grid, ensuring the right transmission lines are built as efficiently as possible. As the province moves away from coal-fired power plants, we're enabling investment in renewable energy. In everything we do, our eye is always on the future.
