About the Role
We are seeking a Moodle Technical Support Engineer with strong troubleshooting skills and a DevOps mindset to join our team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across both application and infrastructure layers, with deep knowledge of Moodle (versions 3.x through 4.x), Azure cloud environments, and the LAMP stack. You will be the go-to resource for diagnosing and resolving Moodle-related technical issues, optimizing database performance, and ensuring platform stability for a diverse, multilingual user base.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve Moodle-related technical issues, including performance, plugin conflicts, authentication, and upgrade challenges.
- Manage and optimize infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, including VM configuration, load balancing, scaling, backups, and monitoring.
- Maintain and support Moodle running on the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache/Nginx, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP).
- Write, debug, and optimize SQL queries for reporting, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Support Moodle upgrades and migrations between versions 3.x and 4.x, ensuring smooth transitions with minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with developers, administrators, and stakeholders to ensure platform reliability and security.
- Document troubleshooting processes, fixes, and best practices for internal and client-facing knowledge bases.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills and keeps all stakeholders informed of progress
- Keen to offer recommendations and solutions not just only being satisfied at diagnosing the issues
- Proven experience in Moodle administration and troubleshooting (versions 3.x to 4.x).
- Strong DevOps skills with hands-on experience in Azure cloud environments.
- Proficiency in LAMP stack management (Linux server administration, Apache/Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL/MariaDB).
- Expertise in writing and optimizing SQL queries, including joins, subqueries, and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with Moodle plugins, theming, authentication (LDAP, OAuth2, SAML), and cron processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying issues before they escalate.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bilingual: Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese in addition to English.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and automated backups/monitoring in Azure.

- Previous experience supporting multi-tenant Moodle/IOMAD or large-scale Moodle deployments.
