Shifts: Various days

Reports to: Site Supervisor
Starting Wage: $26.18/hr - $27.50/hr
Job Responsibilities
As a Hospital Security Guard, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe, calm, and secure environment for healthcare staff, patients including vulnerable and high-risk individualsand as well as visitors.
Core Duties
- Comply with all Post Orders, hospital policies, and security protocols.
- Assist visitors, patients, and employees with professionalism and empathy.
- Provide first aid when required (training provided).
- Respond promptly to all security and emergency situations.
- Carry out evacuation procedures in the event of fire, earthquake, or other emergencies.
- Summon and coordinate with law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services.
- Maintain detailed and accurate incident reports and daily activity logs.
Access Control & Reception Duties
- Unlock, disarm, and prepare the building at the start of shift.
- Secure, lock, and alarm the building at shift end, including logging all remaining personnel.
- Enforce access control procedures, including ID verification and weapons/knife screening questions.
- Sign visitors and contractors in and out, ensuring compliance with security procedures.
- Provide clear directions to visitors and staff and ensure escorts arrive for restricted-area access.
- Monitor for theft, suspicious behaviour, and unauthorized access.
- Assist with emergency procedures during fire alarms, evacuations, or natural disasters.
- Assist with security clearance documentation and processes (scope may be limited depending on new software systems).
- Support administrative tasks related to identity verification and document handling.
Qualifications and Experience
- Posses a Government of Canada secret (level II) security clearance or have the ability to obtain one.
- Ability to remain alert while on duty.
- Ability to work in a range of weather conditions throughout shift.
- Must complete the online Commissionaire Security Officer Course
- Be willing to obtain a BC security worker's license as well as Advanced Security Training.
- Be comfortable using computers.
- Fluent in the English language - written, verbal and reading skills.
- Have a positive attitude with a professional demeanour.
- Have excellent attention to complete incident report writing.
- Have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in varying situations.
