United Safety Ltd. is seeking a driven and experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to support our team in the Downstream sector of the business. This is a project‑based role with strong potential to transition into a full‑time position as our operations continue to grow.
About the Role
Traveling to customer sites throughout Western Canada, the Health & Safety Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the safe execution of industrial projects across multiple customer sites. Working closely with both Operations (Downstream) and Health & Safety, the position will help reinforce our safety culture, ensure compliance, and provide hands‑on field support. This position is based out of our Fort Saskatchewan location. When not on customer work sites, the Health & Safety Coordinator will be working out of our Forst Saskatchewan Technical Operating Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide health and safety support for field operations
- Ensure project site compliance with United Safety policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards
- Attend Project Needs Assessments with Operation’s Major Projects Manager ensuring all Health and Safety requirements for each individual project are discussed and addressed
- Accompany United Safety’s Contracts Manager to Customer Meetings establishing and building health and safety relationships
- Conduct incident investigations in collaboration with project site leadership and company management
- Conduct hazard assessments, inspections, and safety observations
- Conduct competency verifications (Audit)
- Coaching and mentoring - Engagement with onsite personnel promoting a proactive safety culture including the use of protective measures, and empowering workers to recognize, address, and report risks directly to improve safety.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training activities
- Support project planning and readiness from an HSE perspective
- Support the company and customer’s Hazard Management Process
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Preparation of Health and Safety Plans for customer project work sites
- Assisting with the collection/tracking of company health and safety statistics, measuring against identified metrics, identifying current trends, communicating trends to the workforce, and recommending solutions to mitigate negative trends.
Work Environment
This is a field‑based position requiring regular travel to customer sites across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. The role involves working in industrial environments and adapting to changing project needs.
Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in downstream (Industrial) environments (most experience being in Health and Safety)
- Strong working knowledge of OH&S legislation
- NCSO certification or equivalent (minimum requirement)
- Clean Class 5 driver’s license (minimum requirement)
- Trained and experienced in TapRooT® Incident Investigation methodology (asset)
- Reside in or near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta (asset)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently in remote and dynamic work environments while staying aligned with team priorities
- Ability to stay in camp accommodations and motel/hotels as required by project scope
- Experience working on large scale, multi contractor industrial sites supporting field operations
- Familiarity with customer safety management systems and reporting platforms
- Valid CSO, H2S Alive, Intermediate First Aid, and Confined Space certification (or ability to obtain)
- Additional safety certifications or training are considered assets
