Specific Position Information:

The successful applicant will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.

Expected End Date: March 21, 2026

Hours per week and Schedule of Work (Hours and Schedule of work are subject to change in accordance with Article 19):

17.5 hours per week. Evenings and Saturdays required.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the designated supervisor, is responsible for providing digital conversion, design and editorial services to the customers of the digital documentation service. Participates in the design and development of services.

Duties:

  • provides instruction and assistance to the public in the use of digital, preservation and web design software and equipment
  • advises customers on technical requirements and design elements for creation of printed or electronic documents
  • provides digital imaging and design services to the public (includes conversion: hard copy, film and slides, into suitable format, data entry, spell checking, basic editing, preparation of graphic elements and layout for presentation or publishing (print or web) or other purposes
  • prepares documents using computerized text-editing systems
  • provides assistance with the planning for service development and implementation
  • assists with research on relevant software, equipment and related training
  • assists with development of service guidelines, customer instruction tutorials, and promotional materials
  • participates in the development of performance measures and evaluation of the service
  • ensures high level of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service
  • assists in the training of Library staff to provide digital conversion, design and editorial services
  • other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in computer imaging, graphic arts or web design or equivalent education and experience

  • Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public service to all, in accordance with human rights legislation and the principles of equity and access in the delivery of library service

  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design or a similar field

  • Demonstrated experience in the use of relevant file formats, software and hardware

  • Demonstrated visual acuity and manual dexterity

  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated research and writing skills

  • Experience in training customers on PC applications desirable

  • Ability to learn and apply computer-based production services

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Excellent communication and interpretation skills

  • Accuracy and speed in keyboarding
