Job Title: Payroll & Benefits Specialist (Part-Time, Contract) Position Type: Part-Time, Contract (7-8 months) Hours: Approx. 20 hours per week
Location: Remote - anywhere in US or Canada Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll & Benefits Specialist to manage our cross-border payroll and benefits administration on a part-time contract basis. In this role, you will own the end-to-end processing of both Canadian and US payrolls, manage employee benefits enrollments, and serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding payroll. You will work closely with our HR Business Partners to ensure seamless operational support.
Key Responsibilities ● Cross-Border Payroll: Accurately process end-to-end semi-monthly/bi-weekly payroll for Canadian and US employees using Ceridian Dayforce (or similar enterprise payroll software), ensuring compliance with provincial, state, and federal regulations. ● Benefits & RRSP/401(k) Administration: Manage the administration, enrollments, changes, and terminations for Canadian and US benefit programs. Oversee retirement savings plans, including Manulife RRSP and Fidelity 401(k) platforms, ensuring timely contributions and reconciliations. ● Employee Support: Serve as the subject matter expert and first point of contact for employees regarding payroll discrepancies, tax withholding, benefits coverage, and retirement plan questions. ● HRBP Collaboration: Partner closely with HR Business Partners to coordinate employee lifecycle changes (onboarding, leaves of absence, terminations, compensation adjustments) affecting payroll and benefits. ● Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, prepare payroll/benefits reports for finance and HR teams at month end, and assist with year-end reporting (T4s, W-2 s),audits and ROE for Canadian employees.
Qualifications & Skills ● Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience managing both Canadian and US pay roll and benefits administration. ● Software Proficiency: Proven experience using Ceridian Dayforce (highly preferred) or a similar major workforce management system. Direct experience navigating Manulife and Fidelity platforms is a strong as set. ● Knowledge: Deep understanding of Canadian (CRA, provincial employment standards)and US (IRS, state-by-state regulations, FLSA) payroll legislation. ● Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-service approach to resolving employee issues. ● Organization: High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a confidential, remote-first environment.
