About the role
Scribendi is seeking a curious and driven developer to join our team as an Integrations Engineer. In this role, you’ll design, build, and maintain high-quality, AI-powered platform extensions and integrations that elevate our customers’ workflows and enhance their day-to-day productivity. You’ll work closely with the Product team to deliver seamless functionality in tools like MS Word, Google Docs, Overleaf, MS Teams, and Slack, enabling users to interact with Scribendi where they work.
This is a unique opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on our product ecosystem, bringing your expertise and creativity to production-ready integrations. If you’re passionate about building integrations that blend technical excellence with user delight, and you’re eager to grow in a collaborative, AI-enhanced environment—we’d love to hear from you!
This role is being offered as fully remote or hybrid, with our head office based in Chatham, ON.
What you will do
- Rewrite the existing MS Word VSTO add-in using the JavaScript API in a modular, platform-agnostic architecture with business logic reused across other extensions
- Successfully deliver production-ready integrations for both MS Word (using the JavaScript API) and MS Teams
- Design and integrate AI-powered features into platform extensions
- Maintain a low monthly bug rate for all owned extensions by addressing critical and non-critical issues quickly
- Ensure every release includes automated tests and passes CI/CD checks before deployment
- Proactively identify and resolve integration-specific tech debt or reliability issues, ensuring excellent uptime for all owned tools
- Collaborate with the product team to rapidly deliver new features through biweekly sprint planning and consistent completion of assigned tickets
- Improve deployment processes and system reliability through actively contributing to DevOps and reliability discussions
- Communicate effectively across teams in Canada, Japan, and China, managing time zone challenges to avoid blockers and keep velocity high
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience building platform integrations and browser-based extensions
- Strong ownership mindset with a commitment to quality and end-to-end delivery
- Expert-level knowledge of JavaScript and front-end architecture principles
- Proven experience working with APIs, authentication flows, and cross-platform environments
- Hands-on experience building custom add-ins and extending functionality using the Microsoft Word JavaScript API
- Deep understanding of AI fundamentals
- Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong documentation habits
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, demonstrate resourcefulness, and take initiative without constant oversight
- Collaborative and communicative, open to feedback and continuous learning
- Comfortable adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Located in and authorized to work in Canada
