Lab Technician
Kamloops, British Columbia
The Lab Technician, under the supervision of the Technical Manager and utilizing modern technology, is tasked with participating in the mill's Quality Management System (“TQM 9000”) by performing both quality assurance and quality control activities throughout the mill. This role involves collaborating with the production team in all matters pertaining to product quality during their shift.
We’re looking for a Lab Technician to join our Heffley Creek EWP Division, located in Heffley Creek, British Columbia. Our site recently underwent a major capitalization project and modernization including the commissioning of a new, state-of-the-art engineered wood products facility.
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

Good communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
-
Mechanically and analytically inclined, previous lab experience, and attention to detail are strong assets.
-
Committed to safety first culture.
-
Previous experience working with a quality management system (i.e. ISO 9000) is an asset.
-
Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
-
Experience with finger jointing and face lamination is an asset.
-
Experience and/or training in relation to Continuous Improvement and LEAN is considered an asset.
In this role you will:
-
Participate as an active member of the operating shift, providing real-time QA/Technical direction as the on-shift QA department representative.
-
Perform mechanical and physical testing of incoming raw materials and finished product (PLV blanks, finger jointed lamellas, finished product, resin, edge seal).
-
Perform certification sample collection, grading, testing, and shipment as per APA requirements.
-
Ensure proper operation of process control equipment (blow detector, flow meters, profile scanners, dimension verification scanners, etc).
-
Assists in the training of production team members on performing quality checks throughout the process.
-
Participates in process improvement and experimental trials throughout the mill.
-
Assist with the calibration of process instruments and laboratory measuring equipment e.g., tape measures, calipers, flowmeters, thickness gauges, blow detectors, load cells, process sensors, etc.

Supports in lab inventory management.
-
Competent in safe use of table saw, miter saw, and other small tool operation.
-
Operating forklift.
-
General house cleaning duties of lab designated areas.
-
Other duties as assigned.
