Role Overview:

We are looking for a Maintenance Manager for one of our portfolio companies, a leading company in plant propagation, based in Langley, BC. The Maintenance Manager will oversee the maintenance and reliability of all greenhouse facilities, equipment, and infrastructure at the company’s Langley site. This role is responsible for leading the maintenance team, ensuring preventative and corrective maintenance programs are executed effectively, and supporting production with minimal downtime. The Maintenance Manager will play a critical role in sustaining operational efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement in a dynamic agricultural environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and schedule the maintenance team, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous learning.
  • Coordinate with operations, production, and HR to align maintenance priorities with business needs.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules for greenhouse systems, HVAC, irrigation, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly to minimize production downtime.
  • Facilitates the Maintenance Department safety processes to achieve plant safety goals, including Zero Injuries.
  • Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • Update equipment history, repair records, repair frequency and resource library.
  • Controls the repair and maintenance budgets, ensuring they are in line with the fiscal plan.
  • Implements cost reductions to offset negative or unplanned variances to budget.
  • Ensures city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the maintenance department are met at all times.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, OH&S standards, and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, inspections, and regulatory documentation. Budget & Resource Management.
  • Oversee maintenance budgets, including parts, supplies, and contractor services.
  • Source vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure cost-effective procurement.

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement process improvements to extend equipment life, reduce downtime, and enhance productivity.
  • Stay current with technology advancements relevant to greenhouse operations.
  • Plan, coordinate and prioritize maintenance requirements in conjunction with operations departments to obtain minimum cost and high reliability.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering/Technical field
  • 5+ years of progressive maintenance management experience in greenhouse, food production, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, irrigation, boilers, and automated greenhouse equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with maintenance teams, including scheduling and performance management.
  • Solid understanding of WorkSafeBC, OH&S, and Canadian safety/environmental standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, seasonal, and production-driven environment.

Nice to have:

  • Manufacturing industry-specific experience is a strong advantage.
  • Experience working in the farming industry.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience is an asset.

Position Type

  • Time Commitment . High-commitment position with the requirement for extensive overtime as needed
