SYSTEMS ENGINEER – CYBER SECURITY 1.0 FTE – Permanent position

Salary Range: $95,364 to $119,209 per year

The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Systems Engineer to work as a member of the senior technical team within Information Technology Services (ITS). The successful candidate will provide technical support, supervision, leadership, and project management, in a multi-functional role, with security being the primary responsibility. Other areas of responsibility may include cloud computing, networking, server support, Active Directory, endpoint management, network/systems monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Support and administration of security technologies such as SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), EDR (Endpoint Detection & Response), Network/Systems monitoring, Cyber Security.
  • Implementation of Identity and security related processes and procedures.
  • Use provided tools to perform continual monitoring and analysis of system activity to identify malicious activity and implement mitigations.
  • Maintenance of various security tools and technologies such as: advanced malware detection, DDoS, IDS/IPS, DLP, Anti-spam as well as other Cyber threat intelligence and vulnerability management capabilities
  • Support the triage, investigation and response of Cybersecurity incidents. Analyze identified malicious activity in the computing environment to determine weaknesses exploited, exploitation methods, and effects on system and information
  • Provide support (or backup support) for other responsibilities within the senior ITS team, such as Active Directory, cloud computing, server support, networking.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Skills Required

  • University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' related working experience in a large complex public sector organization, preferably in an educational environment.
  • CISSP or other industry recognized cyber security certification and/or proven experience with security technologies.
  • Understanding of key IT / Cybersecurity concepts (Network Security, Security Operations & Administration, Managed Detection and Response, Incident Response & Recovery, Vulnerability Management, etc.)
  • Proficient and demonstrated experience in managing network security, Windows and Linux operating systems security and cloud security.
  • Excellent knowledge of Cybersecurity detect and respond methodologies, standards and best practices
  • Knowledge of security threats, common attack vectors and the use of security tools to monitor the technology infrastructure and computing environment. Experience with process automation using PowerShell and/or other scripting tools.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and configuring Linux systems.
  • Excellent team leadership and organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently and in a team environment; exceptional problem-solving skills and works well under pressure to meet aggressive timelines and resolve critical issues and excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required as this position requires travel.

Testing May Be Required During The Selection Process. This is a permanent position that works twelve (12) months of the year. The compensation range for this twelve (12) month position is $95,364 to $119,209 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is based on a thirty-five (35) hour work week.

Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees, even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
