The Town is seeking applications for the position of Mechanic/Trades III in the Public Works department on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Foreperson of Public Works this position supports the maintenance and repair of the Municipal Fleet.

Duties will include:

  • Performing scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance and repairs and maintenance of town owned vehicles and equipment both in the shop and in the field on a large variety of automotive, commercial trucks, large and small equipment items and emergency generators;

  • Inspecting vehicles and equipment, diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, or electrical malfunctions, and undertakes corrective action.

  • Complying with and promoting safe work practices and procedures in support of a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Performing preventative maintenance safety inspections.

  • Performing welding repair and fabrication tasks as required;

  • Operating vehicles and equipment when assigned.

Required qualifications include:

  • Completion of grade 12;

  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement and safe driving record;

  • Red Seal Automotive Service Technician qualification certificate;

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ recent and relevant experience in the mechanical field; with work including automotive, heavy-duty repair and maintenance, and equipment repair and maintenance;

  • Air Brake Repair for Mechanics and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate;

  • Welding and fabrication experience;

  • Maintain a complete personal set of tools. Any additional specialized tools and equipment required for the role will be provided by the Town;

  • Ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office and ADP;

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public;

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently;

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge will be considered if deemed acceptable by the Employer.

The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The rate of pay will be $39.87/hr (July 1, 2024 rate). Successful applicants will be expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be required to provide a recent driver’s license abstract.
